do most of you on here brush or comb your hair? how many refrain from it totally and just use ur fingers? is it healthier to brush your hair at least once daily or does it just damage it? i recently bought a wide tooth brush(it says for thick hair). i usually just use a comb after my shower then just use my fingers when dry. whats your take?
Hey Ryan - So, do you have thick hair? Is that why you bought that type of brush? I do and if I brush mine a lot it will get LOTS of static elec. and frizz out. I use a wide toothed comb when it is wet and then finger comb it during the day. Sometimes I do brush it out. They say it's good for your hair because it brings out the natural oils. I think the only "concern" when brushing is breaking. Never brush or comb through tangles as that can cause breakage, and I've heard (here) that when brushing and/or combing when wet you have to be more careful. That's my take man... Bruce'ster
yes I have thick hair. thanks for replying. ya i think i'll stick to the combing when wet then just finger combing thru the day.
Seems to me like lots of guys seem to think brushing their hair is bad for it whereas girls generally don't even consider NOT brushing it. Speaking as a girl, I brush my hair at least every morning and every night with a vent brush (one with widely spaced bristles and holes in it). However, I do have naturally straight hair and if your hair is wavy or curly it might not be such a good idea - an ex-boyfreind of mine had lovely curly hair and he would only brush it out once a month, at most, and then it had to be before he washed it because it was a hideous mess (albeit an untangled one) afterwards. Washing and conditioning it afterwards put the curls back where they belonged without any further brushing.
At the length my hair is now (just below waist) "finger-combing" works the best of all for me. When shorter it was not needed...........but it sure is now. Why? Because at this point a brush (or comb unless very wide) is a deadly weapon to my hair and will tear it to shreds.
If you look in "links" you will see the site of EdG. He "Finger-combs" his hair as well. And just look at that length. Astounding!
I use a comb only whenever my hair is still wet, --- although when I run into any major tangles, I'll refrain from even using a comb, and resort to fingers only until all tangles are free).
I definitely DO use a brush, though, whenever my hair is completely dry, --- especially if my scalp is itchy. It isn't until usually at least 24 hours after whenever i last thoroughly shampooed & conditioned that the urge to give my scalp and hair a major brushing takes place. It's important to start with carefully brushing the ends, first; then when all tangles and snags are pretty much gauranteed to be completely free, that's when I give myself long, smooth brush strokes down the entire length, from scalp to ends. This is easiest to do if I turn my head more or less upside-down, brushing the hair forward. The tingle feeling in the scalp and the distribution of Mother Nature's natural oils down the whole hair shaft is a sensation like no other, --- and feels just as good, if not better, than after a good shampooing (and enables me to be able to go for longer periods of time between shampooings).
...That's my answer, anyway!

Hi Ryan,
I do brush occasionally, but only if the hair is THOROUGHLY dry, and the brush is one of those with the very widely spaced tines. However, most of the time I use a wide tooth comb, after removing as many of the tanges as possible with my fingers.
