Been buzz cutting for years but always wanted a tail again. SO, being a biker and wanting a braided tail so my hair doesn't get all tangled up, my new wife talked me into growing my hair out and man does it look good! Thanks to everyone on the board for words of encouragement to others in that awkward stage. It helps when I have thoughts of not going any further...I am at about 8 monthes of no haircuts. BUT I do have a question for all. About how long does hair grow each month? Mine seems to have slowed down as of recent...
Hi and welcome! It's great to have another guy that has discovered the MLHH. That's wonderful that your new wife is actually ENCOURAGING you to grow your hair, hopefully you can post some pictures and give us regular updates.
As for growth rates, the normal rate is around 1/2 inch per month, or 6 inches per year, although there are some guys blessed with nearly twice that rate, and others not so lucky with half the normal rate, it's all in your genetics! If you're at 8 months of growth, you should be able to pull off a decent ponytail in around 6 months to a year, depending on your growth rate.

average is 1/2 inch per month but i would say it grows slower in winter and faster in summer because of the vitamin d from the sun. If you smoke it may grow slower and if you are one into taking vtamins and eating caarrots it may grow faster
Everyone's right with the average being 1/2 inch per month. Eating a balanced diet also helps quite a bit, as well as not smoking and being reserved in alcohol and caffeine consumption. I stopped with all three and have definitely noticed an increase in my growth rate over the past couple months.

Expect to take at least a year to get to the late stage of the awkard phase, and another year for a comfortable tail. Its not going to grow overnight. Also as your hair gets longer precieved growth will decrease.
If you're confused by these inches (definitely I am), then I should mention again what did I write (somew)here, due to one local hair stylist site, the hair grows 0.3 - 1.2 centimeters per month (and fastest on autumn).
Keep it growing and don't get caught by fashion police! :)
