hey everyone
i was just wondering about chemical hair straightning?
i hear it does absolute wonders for hair, but also can damage it alot
i just really would love the feeling of washing my hair and it drying stick straight, rather than straight-ish and slightly puffy
anyone had this done for their hair?
thanks
You will also "love" the feeling of rough hair and breaking/splitting ends. Chemicals are bad for hair!
If you saw my post below, I am dealing with suspected damage caused by over-use of straightening irons, which I stopped 5 months ago, the damage is still haunting me. Chemical straightening is even WORSE! Although the hair looks good, the great look is only temporary. What chemical straightening does is use very harsh chemicals (think Lye, or Drano!) which literally change the physical structure of hair by breaking the bonds that are part of its structure, THAT'S why it becomes straight. After the straightness goes away, as it will in a few weeks as the hair grows out, you are left with permanently damaged hair.
Think VERY seriously before trying it.
Hope this helps,
David
Hey man,
I had an afro that was huge. My hair wouldnt have gone down if it werent for chemically straigtening. Get it trimmed when you do it, or shortly after. Damage? Possibly. I have some, my hairs never been split free though, and my hairs still VERY curly after having it treating a few times (with long intervals in between). I still like mine, i put some leave in conditioner and oil, and deep condition, which is a real good idea. If your hair isnt that curly, dont do it. If its not a totally frizzy fro like mine was, dont do it. And getting it relaxed (chemical straigtened) wont guarentee it will be slick straight, depending on how curly your hair is before. There is a really expensive (500 dollars at least) japanese process thats supposed to totally straighten hair slick straight, but i dont know much about it, and its probably worse. Maybe show a picture of your hair, and better advice could be given. Unless its really fro like or a fro and its like 10 inches long (long enough that it should go down somewhat at least), i wouldnt do it. For me, it was a good decision though. It did do wonders for mine.
Hope that helps. Maybe go to a professional salon that you trust and ask em.
It WILL damage your hair.
I have wavy hair and like my hair to straight occasionally, so i use 'Hang Straight' by Aveda, which works great for me.
Try a similar product, or even straightening irons (not ideal though) before you go the long-term and long-term damaging chemical route.
IMO :)
