David, did you get a chance to visit the link posted by R Rated Superstar. It was a rather complicated read for me, however, since you are a chemist I thought you might have gathered considerable information from it. It does state that the male always inherits the X chromosome from the mother. I have read in the past that the gene responsible for MPB most likely resided on the X chromosome. Naturally, this would indicate that genes responsible for MPB must reside on both X and Y chromosomes, perhaps to a greater degree on the X.
Here is the link again incase you missed it.

Jeffrey.
Funny you mentioned that Jeffrey, I have just been on the board and was just now reading that link that you spoke of, it's fascinating reading, there's some inclusive evidence but evidence nonetheless! A question I have of you is when do you think I might see some benefits from the propecia? I have been on it for just under 3 months now, and don't notice any difference, except I don't think the thinning is amy worse. Perhaps three months is too little time, Dr. Rassman has said it could be more like 6 months to a year.
I DO have another question for you. I could not recall where you said you lived in the US, seems it was down south somewhere (New Mexico?). The reason I ask is that in around two years, after I retire, I plan a road trip through the states, leaving my home in Canada and travelling across the states to the west coast and back north to Canada, meeting fellow longhairs on the way. (see my post below, "a message to all the west coast members of the MLHH") If you're interested, I would like to include you as someone I would like to see on the way, just let me know if you would like to be on my list of "guys to meet".
All the best,
David
Hi there.
Honestly, I think that you will see your best results in a year, or more. I do want to stress again that there are some things that you might want to mind. Pay close attention to your short term memory and your vision. You might want to have an eye test now in order to compare to in one, or, two years. My vision and memory has become worse since starting DHT inhibitors. There is also a chance that minoxidil may be responsible as well since I started minoxidil along with Propecia. And yes, advancing age could be a factor too :)
I am in Hot Springs, Arkansas. I do go to New Mexico occasionally, but, over the last 5 years I am usually in Florida every week. I spend more time in Florida than I do Arkansas. I would like to meet you, if you get through this way. I am usually here on the weekends. I am including a picture of Hot Springs from the east side of West Mountain. The city of Hot Springs is remodeling the old bath houses and they are absolutely beautiful. The bath houses were frequently visited by gangsters such as Al Capone back around the turn of the century. Well, I'm going to drive down and file my taxes. I hope you like the picture.
Jeffrey.
Hi again Jeffrey!
The picture of Hot Springs, Arkansas is beautiful, I'll have to time it so I swing through there on the weekend, it would be great to get together for a beer or two. (My trip will probably be spring 2009, depending on finances, etc., hope my health stays good)
My vision has always been good (I still don't wear glasses, either for distance or reading, I cannot complain, at 53 going on 54), although I can't focus in super close to look at things really closely anymore the way I used to. (within a couple of inches, things start to blur) My short term memory is excellent right now, some say I have a mind like an elephant! (After an 18 hole round of golf, I can remember every shot, I never carry a scorecard and just keep the score in my head) I would sure hate to lose that abilty. I did not realize those were side effects, I had always thought more of the "other" side effects, which I think I have been experiencing lately to some degree.
On a side note, I saw your picture to Dean below! The two of you have quite a competion going on there, I am VERY impressed, I commented in that thread, BTW. If THAT is one of the side effects, I LIKE that one, although I think the increased muscles in your case are from the heavy lifting you do on your job. (I weigh 145 pounds, soaking wet, 5 foot nine to ten in height, and could SURE use some muscle, lol!)
All the best,
David
Oh yes, the muscle picture. Ha Ha! I didn't know if you saw that, or not. I got a real kick out of that. I thought you would weigh considerably more than 145. I am 5'6" and I bounce back and forth from 190 to about 205. I want to get down to about 165.
The propecia should increase your testosterone levels, however, you may experience some sexual side effects. I did on propecia. Now that I am on Avodart my libido had increased considerably; For what that's worth.
Jeffrey.
you may experience some sexual side effects. I did on propecia.
Yes, those were the "other" effects I was referring in my other post, unfortunately. However, I have heard that they can go away after being on propecia for a longer period, I sure hope so. Avodart sounds great in that regard, at least for you, but Dr. Rassman always seems down on it, possibly because it's not FDA approved for hair loss. It certainly DOES appear to be better than propecia in that regard, as it apparently blocks both enzymes that cause DHT to be produced, I don't know why FDA approval is so slow, perhaps there's some politics going on. Frankly, I would rather be on Avodart.

Hey david,
If your travels bring you way down south to Louisiana, I would be more then happy to meet with you. There are bunch of places around here that serve some mean seafood.
peace
That sounds GREAT, Clayton, thanks for the invite! And I just LOVE seafood, after all I live in a province by the sea.
David
err any chance you come to France ?
i would be happy to meet you in real life... i live in the south with sun , beach , sea and a lot of great stuff ^^
Cya !
My hair Journal
Hi Angel,
I would love to come to France someday and meet you, in fact I have never been overseas. My first big trip after I retire will be the one in the Spring of 2009 across the US, but since I will be retired, I am sure I will be making more trips, I will certainly keep France in mind as one of my future ones!
All the best,
David
Maybe we should do some kind of "Which Country Are You From?"
Hmmmmmm...maybe I will.
Good idea, Luckskind! We did have a "Where do you come from and what languages fo you speak" thread a few months back, but everyone could use a refresher by having this one done again, it's always great to know where people are from. After all, that's the beauty of this community, the fact that not all of us are from North America.
David
...anyway it would be fun to do it again.
any chance anyone could come to Taiwan?
