for a Moon Dance! Total Lunar Eclipse tonight. Check out your local time zones fellas! Bruce'ster
And the weather is looking great in Halifax for totality, clear and mild. The eclipse is better the farther east you are, with more of the eclipse phase visible after sunset.
And Bruce, on a side note, I don't think I recall whereabouts you live. The reason I ask is that I am planning a road trip across the US in the Spring of 2009, meeting any fellow members of the MLHH along the way. It would sure be great to meet you on my planned trip depending on whether you happen to be on my tentative route.
David
Hey David - Cool, I was feeling kind of left out (lol). I'm in Eastern (Coastal) N.C. near the Outer Banks. However, I was born in Ca and only recently moved here. Keep me in mind as you continue to plan your road trip. You'ld be a welcome guest in my home here on the river. I see otters, Canadian Geese, Herons, Osprey and Bald Eagles too on a regular basis. Lucky Me! It ain't the great NorthWest I'm used to but I have grown to appreciate and enjoy this unique area (can you say Spanish Moss)from the Appalachians to the coast. In fact the Pamlico Sound is the largest estuary in the U.S. and the town I live in sits at the confluence of 2 rivers (Neuse and Trent) that flow into it. The bad news is that the American River Fndtn. has just placed the Neuse on it's list of the top 10 most polluted U.S. rivers. This is largely due to the unregulated/unenforced HOG WASTE that empties into it, factory pollution and development upstream in the larger N.C. cities. My 5th graders made a You-Tude video with the local River Keeper singing environmental songs with Ole' Man River himself (me) playing the banjo. It's not out yet but I'll let everyone know when it is. Well, I'm off to check the horizon. Ciao - Bruce'ster
Oh, yes, Bruce, I would love to see you! I would never dream of asking for a place to stay, the pleasure would be all mine in simply having a chance to get together. My tentative route takes me down through New England, New York, the Washington area, and on down the coast, then across to the West Coast. I have now made sure my route covers N.C. and a chance to meet you. There are SO many places I want to see and the more guys from the MLHH I get to meet, the better it will be, it will give me memories to cherish forever.
Anyway, gotta run, the eclipse it at totality in Halifax right now and the coppery moon is AWESOME!
All the best,
David
I'd like to visit some natural places in Taiwan too (there are a few and while I am stuck here might as well make the best of it) but the problem is that alot of the natural places that are a tourist attraction are filled with garbage because most Taiwanese just throws garbage around. 10 years ago it was so bad that rivers were black, smelled really bad, had dead animals floating in it and stuff. Its gotten better but it seems its in their culture to pollute or something.
Hey Tai Fu - Maybe some day they will wise up and start treating their land with respect. Isn't that the spiritual way? Here in the U.S. people throw trash on the highways and even in National Parks. The "average" person doesn't care about anything but themself; leave it to someone else to clean up after them. That's not always true, but sadly the actions of the few, affect many. Peace - Bruce'ster
It's just a bit before 7 in Halifax, and the moon's a dark, coppery ball right now, pretty well at totality. (It rose a bit less than half lit, dimished down to a crescent and now a dark coppery ball) I live in a condo, but we half a rooftop patio.
I have heard that a Total Lunar Eclipse will not only change the level of tides...but will make your hair go through an incredible growth spurt for 24 hours...just go outside and expose your head, take your cap off, to the moon during the entire length of the eclipse...you need to stand still too.
I don't think the eclipse will be visible here in Louisiana :(
Perfectly clear night, a beautiful full red moon! I took several old fashion snail mail film shots of the event. Hope some turned out!
