Hello everyone,
You might remember me from a couple months back, I posted a message about my fine, thin hair. Anyway, I'm back again with an update, and some new pictures. I've been growing my hair for 21 months now. It's hard to believe I'm going to be 28 years old in a couple weeks, and I'm finally doing what I always wanted to do with my hair. Anyway, I'm going to start off with one of my January pictures as a reminder.
Now, here is what I look like today.
In that last image, you can really see the thinness in the front. One thing is for sure, I need to get myself a new camera. Overall, I think I look much better with long hair. If you're wondering, here is what I looked like before.
I take much better care of my hair now. This picture was taken in December of 2003. The good news is, my hairline hasn't changed much at all in those three plus years. So even though my hair is thinning, it's a slow process. Still, I need to talk to a dermatologist as soon as I can afford it. One final picture.
As soon as I'm done posting this message, I'm going to submit this photo to the directory of users. I think it will make a great avatar.
Thanks everyone!
Brian

Axel
Hi Axel,
Thanks! I think it's a great improvement myself. I'm never going back to that look again. Well, I'll be happy to keep everyone updated, as soon as I can afford to see a dermatologist. Hopefully it won't be too much longer.
Brian
Hello, your hair does look really nice :)
i hope you will be able to stop the thining process but dont worry it's not too visible on the picts

Hello Angel,
Thanks! Yeah, it's not too visible, thankfully. Though when my hair is greasy, it really shows up.
Brian
You look really good with long hair, therefore, you should see a Doctor concerning thinning hair. I think that you could do a great deal of good with Propecia and Minoxidil.
All your pics look good, but, the top pic looks fabulous.
BTW, I have hair much like yours. I use Avodart and Rogaine and it has made a considerable difference.
Best wishes.
Jeffrey.
Thanks Jeffery!
Great advice, and I haven't forgotten your advice from the last time I posted either. I just haven't had the money yet to act on it. Unfortunately, I have more important issues to deal with like getting Health Insurance. Once that is taken care it, it will probably make getting to a dermatologist that much easier too.
Avodart, wow, that's strong. Propecia didn't work well enough for you?
Brian
yea,I remember you.I'm glad you are signing up to be a member!!your hair looks really cool..I really like the last pic with the windswept hair!!
now, about the thin hair:have you tried volumizing shampoos/conditioners?and leave-in conditioners?they help in producing volume..(at least for me)
you say you've always wanted to grow long hair..may I ask what has been holding you back all these years?what's your goal length?
all the best
-Jacob
Hi Jacob,
Thanks for your comments! Yeah, the windswept hair photo is my favorite too! I couldn't have gotten it to come out any better even if I had tried.
I've tried volumizing shampoos and conditioners. They seem to work to various degrees. I currently alternate between Fuller Thicker Hair and Garnier Fructis Body & Volume. I haven't decided which I like better yet.
I've never tried Leave-in conditioners. I've always been concerned about it leaving my hair greasy. I have to wash my hair everyday, because within 12 to 18 hours my hair looks flat and stringy. I wouldn't mind experimenting though, any brands you recommend?
As for what took me so long, it was mostly peer pressure. Plus, I was always worried my fine, thin hair wouldn't look right. Plus, a little over 10 years ago, I had come close to growing it, and my father had the idea to tell me I had the wrong hair type to grow it long. That stuck in my mind for years. Finally, a couple years ago, I said the heck with it. I'm going to be myself, and do what I want to do. And I haven't looked back since.
For my goal length, I'm not really sure. I'd love to have waist long hair, but realistically, I have doubts my hair will reach that length. Other than that, I'm shooting for terminal. I'm curious how long that will be anyway.
Brian
have you tried pantene sheer volume?
I suggest a pantene leave-in.right after you get outta the shower and after patting your hair with a towel, spray on some leave-in and let it airdry.
I must say the difference is immense.you look much better with long-hair,it's almost as if I see 2 different people.bravo for deciding to grow it out and be yourself!! :)
time will only tell whether you can grow it to waist or not.some people have short terminal lengths, some have long.take care!!
No I haven't, but I guess I'm willing to give it a try. I have tried their "Thick and Full" and that was a bad experience for me, so I'm a little cautious to try them again, but I'll consider it.
How greasy does that make your hair? I have the type of hair that needs to be washed every day, otherwise it looks like a grease pit. So I have to be very careful on conditioners. At the same time, I need to use a conditioner, because my hair also becomes very dry.
Thank you very much! Yes, I agree, I look very different, and the change was worth it. Though I never knew being lazy and cheap, would be so much work and money! I spend more time and money now, than I did when I was getting regular hair cuts.
Yep, I'll have to wait and see. Thanks again!
Brian
Hi Brian, Your hair is looking good. I can see quite bit of difference in length from the first pic.
All of us humans are not the same, with different faces, body types, hair type, and HAIRLINE! Some low, some high. I think if it hasn't changed over the last few years, you might be ok. Of course you should still sseek the advice of a good dermatologist and follow thier recommendations. Good luck and keep it growing.
Bruce
Hi Bruce,
Thanks! Yeah, I was amazed when I looked at my pictures from January, and I could see a noticeable change. I didn't think my hair grew that much, especially in only two months.
Yeah, I agree, people have many different looks. I wish I didn't have the high forehead, but that is what I was given, so I do the best I can with it. I will see a dermatologist as soon as it is a financial option though.
Thanks again,
Brian
Hi Brian,
I have to say your hair looks superb, nice and straight, and you look FAR better with long hair. I am amazed at how fast your hair grows, you have achieved incredible length for 21 months, you're right up there with ChrisG as one of the guys with the fastest growing hair on the board. And I agree the picture of the windswept hair would make a great avatar.
As for your concerns about thin hair, Jeffrey has given you very good advice, a doctor (preferably dermatologist) can advise and lay out a future action plan, if it is necessary.
All the best,
David
Hi David,
Thanks for your comments! Funny, I always though I had slow growing hair. But I agree, growing my hair long was one of the best decisions I've ever made. I really do look a lot better. It hasn't helped me get a girlfriend yet, but that is more of an excessive shyness issue, that anything else, something I'm working on.
Yes, and I plan on listening to Jeffery. As I said to him in my reply, I need to focus on getting some health insurance first, that I can worry about hair loss. I doubt it, but maybe insurance will help cover the cost of the dermatologist.
Thanks again!
Brian
