My wife and I went to the Arizona Renaissance Festival this weekend. I wore my McDonald tartan kilt, highland shirt and had my hair in a half-tail. I got a lot of attention! The performers in the "Hey, Nunnie-Nunnie" show thanked me for standing during the show and not sitting and spreading my knees. There were a lot of kilts, both on performers and attendees. It was great! My wife even got her wish, as it was a windy day. ;)
What a blast!

I'm so sad that I had to miss the AZ faire again this year. . .hopefully I'll be there next year!
Sounds like you had a good time! Any photos from the day?
Hey Ball Guy - What's up? I see your avatar hasn't changed. Did you ever cut your locks to help in your performing? Haven't seen you for awhile and was wondering what you decided to do and if not cut, what other "accomodations" you came up with. Bruce'ster
I decided to just keep them as-is for now, I've found different ways of tying them in a bun etc where there's not the massive amount of leverage wreaking havoc on my neck/back. I may still go with the Khokhol cut, but for now I'm just gonna let it grow some more.
omg!! i've met you! you attempted to tach me to juggle, but i was too busy focusing on you and kept dropping everything. i'm pretty sure you thought i was retarded. anyway, i just found it funny that i recognized your face and decided to say hi. hi! it's too bad you won't be at the ren fest this year. (i live in phx, by the way)
Indeed, I love the AZ fest so much, it saddens me greatly every time I miss it. hehe, and don't worry, most people do a great deal of dropping the ball, so I know you're not retarded. . .your just a normal person learning to juggle ;)
I saw the contact jugglers there and thought of you. Did you figure out how to fix-up the dreads while juggling?
Unfortunately, I don't have pictures. I'll have to get a pic soon.

Yeah, so far I've found I can kind of do a weird evolved bun type thing, which keeps the hair closer to the back of my head, instead of a large column on top.
Looking forward to them!
Well done Mate - After last week's talk I'm now planning on attending our local Highland Games at Grandfather Mtn. Hopefully I'll have myself a kilt by then. Cheers - Bruce'ster
When you go, find the Utilikilt booth! They'll set you up right! Have fun, and enjoy the freedom!
Lon
good for you!!
p.s. I just had a rant in the last kilt post
History of the Kilt/Plaid
-------------------------
A KILT came from the original PLAIDS that Highlanders wore, as indeed all men and women wore (an ARISAID is the female version). It was worn around the waist and over the shoulder and head (when it was cold) and measured some 10Metres or more. A very heavy material.
A skirt, however, is a modern term. It has nothing and never has anything to do with Highland Plaids or Kilts.

I appreciate that some people outside of Scotland are very uneducated in our history but when we do try to inform you or educate you, please listen. And dont piss us off, especially if you are visiting.

rant over
p.p.s. If I meet any americans in Edinburgh during the summer, I will try not to thump them.... as long as they are nice that is... grrrrrrrrrr (LOL)
Amen, Brother!
The history is fascinating! I love studying it on the kilt websites. There are so many great stories! The WW1 Germans were so terrified of the kilted Scottish troops, they called them "The Ladies from Hell"!
Have fun checking out the websites! You won't regret it!

lol (I wont ask why..)
The performers in the "Hey, Nunnie-Nunnie" show thanked me for standing during the show and not sitting and spreading my knees.
They were dressed as nuns. Get it?!
