I haven't had a trim in over 6 years, but I remember how great it felt not having split ends for a change. The problem is, there's only one salon in my area, that I trust to trim just the ends without whacking my hair off, and it's about a 20-minute long drive from my house. Frankly, I've no interest in driving that far for something I haven't had done in 6 years.
I'm Googling for info on split ends, and how to effectively trim my own hair without botching my hair. While I've no intention of buying this product, it came up on the first page of results. It looks so scary that I wanted to share it with you:
I saw that, and instantly had a flashback to a scene in Wayne's World where Garth is having some auto-hair trimming product tried on him, and it winds up short-circuiting.
2/5 stars. Not good.
Dude. Read that back to yourself. Out loud.
Ah. Right. Nevermind. My hair's fine the way it is.
LOL
Good. I was concerned I was being a bit harsh. I guess your original statement was more an indicator of how little you wanted to change things, rather than an indicator of laziness in regards to putting in effort towards something you really wanted to do.
I've had one experience now trimming splits with scissors, just taking off less than half an inch so you don't even see the difference. It does feel a lot better, especially when you brush it out. You might want to kick back and weed through your splits one-by one (actually, lock-by-lock sort of, to be more realistic). I've heard of people doing this--inspecting each lock for splits, weeding them out. It might take several hours. I've heard some people say that's actually relaxing. I've never totally done this myself. The one trim made me feel just a bit uncomfortable. Maybe I was where you are now, not wanting to change the look too much. The wild untamed ends sort of give it character.
Yeah, it was really very little more than a passing thought.
So far, everything I've read about trimming them yourself agrees with that point. Personally, I'd much rather spend those several hours playing games or surfing the net.
They work for me.
Yeah, I was thinking very similar thoughts... A 20-minute drive is NOTHING, --- I commute to work double that amount of time EVERY DAY (lol)!
Have a look at this link, it has instructions for doing a self-trim. There are 3 sets of instructions - for straight across, v-shape, and slight u-shape trims. Lots of people over at Long Hair Community use one of these methods and get good results.
