I'm just starting to grow my hair out, and I was wondering whether i should keep the sides short and let the top grow long or just let it all grow. The reason I ask is that I don't want my hair to be bushy looking, but I can't really tell what people who have their hair like I want mine do with it just by seeing them around. I want my hair to be long but still stay pretty flat to my head. Also, I have a friend who trims his sides, but it's really obvious looking through the strands of the long part. I'm really confused. Can anyone shed some light on this for me?
Jeremy,
Don't shave the sides if that's not the look you're going for. Yes, it will probably be a bit bushy for a few months. But eventually your hair will weigh itself down when it's long enough and will be relatively flat against your head. As soon as you can start wearing your hair in a ponytail, this will help train your hair to stay down sooner. Hope everything works out.
Take care, Emily
Thanks for clearing that up for me
Emily- or others-
Any guidelines on how long hair has to get to start to hold itself down? I'm at about 6 or 7 inches, maybe an inch or two below the earlobes, and am anxiously awaiting 'the time'. I've got fairly fine straight hair, with some curl I never suspected as it grow out.
