10 Months 13 Day since my last cut..
Ok, I guess I'll look like a liar posting these, but I've been wearing a pony since the end of my bath, three hours prior and couldn't wait until my one year.
Note: just above and behind each ear I have a small, small, hairclip to catch the last couple sraglers. (Curls like to pull themselves out of ponytails.)

PS I didn't resize, so I hope they are an acceptable size.

Thats great shawn, it almost looks like a bun and that in itself is a cool look.
Congratulations, now you have me thinking . . . .
Thanks. Kudos to you, too. My hair does curl up into a bun-like structure so far. Once it gets long enough (say in 2009), It might actually hang from a tail in nice ringlets. Only time will tell.
I appreciate your comments.
Shawn
Bravo and hearty congratulations to you, Shawn! It seems to be universally accepted that being able to tail for the first time is a milestone ALL of us growing our hair celebrate with pride, and is probably one of the most significant ones on our journey of growing long hair. (I can't see the pictures in this message but I was able to see them in your photobucket account)
Keep those manlocks growing!
David
Thank you very much, David.
I can't agree with it more. I really feel like something more tangible than 1/2" per month: I see a new ability. (Like in the old RPG video games where you know you are building exp., but the new abilities and strength come all at once when you reach a new level.)
(I just love that you've adopted the term so readily! I will keep them growing, for sure. By my August birthday, I just know that my hair will all reach into the tail without the need for any clips to help catch the strays and I also think the tail will be situated lower, too.)
I appreciate your comments.
Shawn
Well done....your curly tail will really be impressive with a little more time and length.
Thanks for sharing.

I am looking forward to Christmas, I can tell you. With another ten months, I think I will be (beginning to) be very pleased.
I appreciate your comments.
Shawn
That looks really good on you, Shawn. It's great to see the sudden number of tails increasing on the board. =)
Thanks, James. You were my inspiration to try it out at ten months. I'd have though I'd need at least a year before even trying it. Now, while it isn't quite a legitimate tail, needing some clips to hold down a couple strays, it is manageable. (I might wait a couple months before wearing it in public, though.)
I appreciate your comments.
Shawn
That's quite nice of you to say, Shawn. I will say, if this helps your fear of public appearances with a tail, that I actually wore a half-tail around campus and to all my classes a few times this week and got very positive comments. Obviously, a student on a university campus and a teacher may have some different standards by which to abide, but I'd suggest trying it out on a weekend first and see what happens. =)
With my sister visiting today, I might just do it. She'd be open and honest about it (though I think she might be a fan).
THanks for the encouragement (I love this board!)
Shawn
Nice one mate - suits you!
Hurray! Feels great doesn't it. Looks good too. Making a tail
is one of those great long hair milestones!
Congratulations!
Thank you very much, Luckskind. It does feel good. I've never been able to do this before and have wanted to for years. I am glad I made the commitment to grow it this long and it only furthers me resolve to let it grow even longer.
I appreciate your comments.
Shawn
Congratulations on getting that lot of hair into a tail :)
Its fun when you get to these milestones. Your hair has some really awesome body to it Shawn. Keep on growin
Thank you very much, Chris.
Thanks again. Under less ideal circumstances, my wife calls it poofiness.
I appreciate the compliments and will vertainly take your advice to keep growing it.

One small step for man, one giant leap for Manlocks!

Your sense of humour is refreshing. I love it!
Thanks for the comment.

Wow! That's always one of the redeeming milestones peppered through the awkward stage - the first ponytail. Yours is particularly good; it looks far fancier than a wispy little tail. As someone said, it does indeed look like a bun, which says to me that both buns and ponytails of different heights will look awesome on you, as it looks awesome now. It really does; it's simple, but elegant. You could go to school like that, I'd imagine, to keep things neat. Some gel might better restrain the renegade curls.
Do your wife and daughter approve? If they doesn't, I hope they'll come around. The little tail has a cool kind of androgynous look to it, a mix of masculine and feminine. That's always the best, in my opinion.
Keep it growing!
Peace
FAllenAngel, my long-time hair idol, I thank you for your kind words.
My daughter loves my hair and we do hair care together. (She is only four, but like trying to comb my hair -ouch!- and she like to try the leave-in conditioners and to wear the bandanas like me. She lkes to show me how long her hair is, too.
My wife has gone from objectionable about the whole thing, to tacetly accepting of the inevitable, to accepting most of the time, jabbing once and a while, and also sometimes complimenting it or running her fingers through it. The hair is looking more like it is long on purpose (rather than just by default) and that helps, but I think being a man of integrity and sticking to my gins on this despite her earlier protestations is what is really winning the battle for me.
I think I will try, before this school year comes to a close, to wear it back. I still need to find a gel that actually freezes curlsm, though. Even sport gels with a strength of "10" (whatever that means) doesn't offer control enough to stop my few stragglers from bouncing out of place.
Thanks for the compliments, FallenAngel.
I am loving you long, long curls too, Caribbean brother. (Canada is in the Cricket World Finals! -- must be our large Trinidadian and Indian populations...)
Ciao for now,
Shawn
Congrats Shawn! Good deal!
Keep on Growin'
