Evenin' - Any of you folks ever weave or braid beads into your hair? I'm talking about a very thin braid on one side of my head with equally small wooden or ceramic beads and/or thin suede pieces either braided or tied in. Thanks - Bruce'ster
I haven't, but if you do, please post pics and tell us (me) about the feel of it and the student response to it. I wonder about braiding my hair sometimes.

Hey Shawn (Mr.Crow) - BTW I saw a guy in line in front of me at the Coffee shop today with hair alot like yours, albeit very short. Still is was thick and curly. I thought about asking him if he ever considered growing it out, but his demeanor and body language weren't exactly conducive to small talk. At any rate...I've braided my ponytail but it's still too short to really "work" for me. What I want is a small braid towards the back or side that has some beads braided or slipped on to it. I'll find a pic and post it to show you what I mean. If I find something I like I don't think I'd wear it that way to school. In fact, Friday I used some oil in my hair and finger combed it like we were discussing Thurs night and did not tuck the sides behind my ears. It looked AWESOME and was "way" curlier than usual and hanging in my eyes and really "flowing" but I was really self-concious about it at school. The last time I grew my hair out and it got this long I almost always tied it in a ponytail at work. This time for some reason (maybe the support of MLHH) I almost always wear it loose even though I can now comfortably tie it back. I like the feel of it better and the look too frankly but it is really "out there" for this conservative area and I don't want to draw too much attention to myself...or do I!!! Bruce'ster
Bruce,
For folk of our age, youthful Mr. Crow excepted, I think we need to go quality. For example, I have some silver celtic clasps wich I use one at a time, in the back of my hair, putting it into my hair and turning it up, thus creating a loose bun. Then I fasten the hair where it emerges from the clip with a bobby pin, but I always use long, thin ones, and for the moment I have forgotten the brand, or goddy's from which I have removed the pastic faux hornrim cover. Then I sometimes put a Jewel on the end of the pin. For example I have a discrete diamond of my Mom's which sh used as a pendant, and I put this on the end of the pin. Then I have some semi prescious stones, some jade and turquois, with small holes which enable me to bind them to the end of the hairpin, but I do not over do it. I want it to be subtly provocative, but I would never use plastic. I might use a crytal bead. But there is a copious supply of semi-prescious stones which can be used. In my view, less it more. I enjoy a masculine appearance, while pushing the envelope. I think the quality of the clasps, not plastic but good metal, and authentic stones if inexpensive are the way to go. Craft supply stores have lackets of silver lated rings which can be used ti attached ither items, and there are also some devices made for key rings, into which a good size nsemiprecious stone can be glued,
While My whie goald platinum ear rings are symetrical, I would neer achieve a symetrial presentation in any other way if personal decoiration.
I cheer you on, and look forward to pictures.
Calednian.
Hey Caledonian Thanks for the ideas. What you describe sounds very ornate and I agree with your less is more philosophy. I've made necklaces before. Spent "hours" looking through the bins and drawers and cubbies for just the right clasp, stones, bones, ceramic pieces, etc. Using some very fine suede or hemp I could probably string something together. The big plus there is that it would be original! I may need to take a trip to my favorite "head shop" (do they say that anymore) for some supplies. And yes I'll post a pic. Take'er'easy - Brucester
Hey, Caledonian--how about a pic? I'd really like to see what this looks like.
It's a promise. I just tried, but inspite of not having clear pictures of my clasps with the occasional semi-prescious stone, they did not show up well in the photos I have. Furthermore I am very inept at photo management on my computer.
I am leaving for SE Asia on Monday 3,12 and do not return to 3.30, but promise some better pictures then.
