El vez,
You can get the "metalless" hairties that are completely fabric all around = no metal pieces to pull your hair out. As for shampoo, go to your local hair salon and they should be able to help you. Do not cut your hair! Alot of people would KILL to have your hairlength! I would! :) Anyway, you've come a long way. You are at a level where many of us are waiting to reach. Enjoy it.

If your hair is dry after shampooing, you need to shampoo less often and condition more. Always use a shampoo recommended for dry hair. When my hair was seeming dry, I used to shampoo with Pantene Pro V, use a rinse-out conditioner, then spray in Infusion 23 leave-in conditioner, and sometimes even apply a moisturizing mousse after that. Some people don't have as much luck with Pantene, though. The Ferrari of hair product lines are the Aveda products, sold at salons and beauty supply stores. I haven't used them, but I've heard their very good. If you're really serious about this, talk to a stylist who specializes in long hair. He or she can evaluate your situation and recommend what would work best for you.
i think the problem is i am outside a good part of the day and i hate sweating the leave in conditioners all down my head.
anyone know a type that can handle the heat?
