Hi there friends. It's been a few months since I posted an update of my progress and thought I'd share a couple recent pictures with you all. Unfortunately, I don't get to this board as often as I'd like and when I am here I only spend a few minutes at a time. Having a couple kids under 5 is quite time consuming! But, I have seen some excellent progress pictures over the past few months from many of you and even though I don't post many replies I at least send good vibes to you all.
Anyway, I'm at 21.5 months into my grow-out (from a buzz) and am really enjoying this second long hair journey. The first picture shows me back at 16 months (end of September 2006) when I first joined the MLHH board. The next two pics are from yesterday (5 1/2 months later). I've made some dietary/lifestyle changes over the past 4 or 5 months and think it just might be creating a little uptick in my hair growth rate but am not positive. During this time I've become a vegetarian, have been drinking MASS amounts of water, and have been running at least 5 days a week (I'm up to 5 miles a day now). Again, not really sure if it's affecting my hair growth rate but I guess it might be possible. I'm pretty happy with the rate anyway.
I've also trimmed down my beard recently. Got it to about 3 inches and trimmed it back down to 1 just because. I might let it grow for the rest of the year but haven't made a final decision yet.
Well, thought I'd share this little update and I hope you all are doing good. Keep those manes growin!
till next time...
~G
Fantastic. I like the beard too. I remember that pose on the left, thinking it made you look a bit angry. The other poses are much better.
Thanks! That was day 5 of camping with a 3 year old and a 6 month old baby after a long drive out to the Oregon coast. Not angry...just burnt.
Wow man, it looks sweet. It really suits you! Congrats on the growing man!
Thanks a lot, Dustin!
Hi Gman,
Good to see your post. I was wondering what had become of you just the other day. Your hair looks awesome and congratulations on the fitness and dietary accomplishments. I tried the vegetarian thing once and cracked after about two months.
Your beard looks awesome still at that length. I trimmed mine today and got it too short and almost freaked out. I hardly knew myself when I looked in the mirror! I don't think I'll cut mine for the rest of the year after this episode today.
I'll do it if you'll do it - Deal?
Good to see you and, even though I don't have kids, just being around my friends' wears me down, my hat's off to you to full time with them!!!, but ya' gotta' love 'em!
Hey Bragi! Thanks for the compliment. And oh, do I know the feeling you speak of! Over the many years of having a beard I've had my days of trimming too short. The last time I did that was about 5 years ago when I switched to a new electric trimmer. I went from about 1.5 inches to 1/8" in a matter of minutes. Like you, I didn't recognize myself. I stood there at the mirror for about 20 minutes in total shock. I grew it out for many months afterward :-)
Awesome hair gman thats a great length for 21 months from a buzz!
Thanks helgast. It's amazing what no trims will do. The first time I grew my hair I did the one-length grow-out and it seemed to take FOREVER to get long. This time I've just been letting it do it's thing naturally from the buzz. If I did the one length gig again with periodic trims my hair would probably only be chin length all around as my bangs grow much slower than the rest.
Hi there, Gman,
I also look forward to your updates, what a great night for updates tonight! First there's one from Gylfi, then another one from yourself, a real treat to be on the MLHH tonight! I am seriously jealous of you guys with SUPER fast growing hair! I remember you complaining about slow growing bangs in an earlier post, that's sure behind you now!
Your hair is amazing, so thick and healthy, and what an incredible ponytail for only 21 months! And it's not just that, the colour is awesome as well. The icing on the cake is that beard that most guys could only dream about being able to grow. (I also trimmed my beard at about an inch for the first time Sunday)
Congratulations on the healthy lifestyle! I'm sure that must play a role in this fantastic update. I notice you joined the MLHH in September, that's only 2 weeks before I joined in mid October, although I lurked for about a month before that. I have to say there is NO better place on the internet than the MLHH!
All the best to you and your family and keep it growing!
David
Hi again, Gman,
I just checked the directory of users and see you live in northern Nevada. I am planning a road trip across the US in the spring of 2009 after I retire and plan to meet as many guys from the MLHH as possible. I would love to meet you as well! I think the Grand Canyon is in Nevada, if I'm not mistaken, correct me if I'm wrong.
All the best,
David
Hey...actually the grand canyon is in Arizona. Out here in Northern Nevada (bordering California) we have Lake Tahoe which is absolutely beautiful. But, we definitely won't be here Spring of 09. We are planning to move somewhere on the Oregon coast next year. If you'll be in Oregon then by all means hit me up :-)
Hi again, Gman,
I guess I need to brush up on my US geography, lol! I'll be driving through Ariz. on my way to Calif. and will have a look at the Grand Canyon there.
I most definitely plan to visit Oregon, after all, Justin lives there and he is one of the guys I am really anxious to meet. I'll definitely like to plan to meet you if you are moving there.
Thanks for asking about my beard, I love it and it's a keeper for sure. It's really thick now, a lot more so than my avatar( which was taken at one month). I have settled on keeping it at 2 months, or about an inch of growth, I used my beard trimmer for the first time last Sunday.
All the best, looking forawrd to meeting you in 2009,
David
Hi there David...Thanks very much for the compliments and well wishes!
Yeah, bangs aren't really an issue anymore. They tuck behind my ears with ease. By summer I should be able to get them to stay in the ponytail full-time. I only wear a tail when I'm running so I've been wearing a cap to keep the bangs from smacking my face while in motion.
So how are you liking your beard? You've had it for a while now if I'm not mistaken. Hope you're enjoying it! The growth in your avatar is looking good, brother. Congrats on sticking it out on your first grow!
Hope all is well with you...
~G
Little update? Hardly. Your long hair is outstanding beyond words!
Thanks very much Justin! And I wanted to say that your beard is definitely looking good on you!
yes,I think exercise ups your growth rate a little bit.there 's a dramatic difference between the first and second photo for jsut 5 months.keep it up!!

Long time no see pal!
The hairs lookin' great! I really like how the beard+long hair look together. Well , Great hearing from you!
take care...
You have a great mane for less than 2 years of growth. You definitely have that classic longhair look now. Great update. Keep it growing.
Absalom
WOW!!you have come a long way sice that first pic
It looks great and very thick
I like the beard too
a.
Wow thats some fast growth since your original post some 5 to 6 months ago!Looks really nice as you have to be very satisfied. How much longer do you plan to let it grow? The beard is looking good too as I keep mine trimmed short because when it gets too long it kind of bothers me.Kind of funny though I like the hair long but the beard short!LOLAnyway thanks for that great update.Mark
gMan, your hair is so very, very nice!
It is thick and full of body, but it also seems to be well-behaved. The beard length in the photos looks really good on you and matches the hair, creating a complete 'look' that really works for you.
I'm not sure if the dietary and lifestyle changes you mention will increase the rate of hair growth or not, but I am sure you are probably much healthier as a result.
Cheers!
Shawn
You have an awesome haed of hair there Gman, fantastic and keep up the great work!!
Wow, I remember seeing your 18 month (I think) pictures when I joined and I was amazed by your growth rate. The hair is looking great, Keep it growing!
-Mihnea
Very impressive! I love that ponytail pic especially. Your hair has really grown so much and is so healthy looking. Thanks for the update.
Being a vegetarian and running that much must have you ripped. My knees and feet can't take running unfortunately but I'm looking forward to getting back cycling again. I miss being in shape.
Amazing growth for 21 months! Outstanding, especially the pic with the tail.
Keep it growing!
Arnold
Excellent looking mane, man. The ponytail, especially, is a good look for you, and your length. Do NOT cut it.
Whatever you're doing, keep doing it. The mane looks awesome!
Mouse (who's also a vegetarian)
That is a great set of pictures. Your hair has certainly grown quite long and it looks fantastic! I love the color and it has great texture. Glad you had a few minutes from chasing after your kids to post :) Terrific pictures
Those diet changes will certainly help you all around whether they change your hair or not. Now you will have the energy of your children too! Keep well :)
