It annoys me when i see people with long hair, and they either have a metallica tshirt on or are pictured holding a guitar!
I wanna see some people who want/have long hair who aren't rockers etc.
Can't just be these people who have long hair, but that's all i can find ....
DaPs
I dont have a Guitar or wear a Metallica tee shirt actually I dont own either of them things but it all boils down to a few things on what they like to to do in there spare time and what they feel comfortable to wear its a matter of choice !
Adding to the above though I love rock Music though longhair & rock music go together I find
Axel
You must not be looking hard enough. There are many guys here who aren't 'rockers'.
Also, one thing that I've noticed on my campus is that lots of black people wear shirts depicting people such as Tupac and Biggy Smalls, and many of them have long dreads....talk about the polar opposite of rock/metal :P So, no, not everyone with long hair is into rock music. Now, personally I love rock music of all kinds (hard rock, death metal, alternative metal, power metal, and the list goes on and on), but not everyone who has long hair is exactly the same. It just so happens that a part of the 'rocker' culture is long hair, so of course many people who enjoy that genre will choose to wear their hair long.
Hey man - I play the banjo and have want/have long hair. Guess that's probably as opposite of heavy metal as one can get; image wise. I also ride a MC and lots of "us" have long hair. Nomatter what the "hobby" or lifestyle there's usually an image/stereotype that goes along with it (right or wrong.) Who you are is more what's IN your head than what's ON it! Peace - Bruce'ster
Actually, banjo is pretty cool. Would be really sweet to have one in a metal song. I wonder what a distorted banjo sounds like? :)
Listen to Hayseed Dixie, and you'll know.
Haha, I found some vids on youtube. Nice covers. ;) Though I didn´t hear any distortion on the banjo.
Haha I love Hayseed Dixie

Therea are many people with long hair that aren't "rockers" (look at 80% of the users on this board) and there are a lot of "rockers" that don't have long hair.
It's a stereotype on both ends. Personally, I love extreme music (death metal, black metal, grind) as well as some good old thrash metal, but that doens't mean that that is why I am growing my hair.

Here's a picture of one of my favorite guitarists, Muhammed Suicmez from the technical death metal band Necrophagist

I am a jazz horn player and dont listen to music that was made after the early 80's. I just dont get anything out of the stuff, give be Bessy Smith any day!!!
peace
Well, There ARE long-hairs with no interest in metal or rock. In my opinion , The reason you see alot of metal fans sporting long hair is because long hair= non conformity. metal music is music for outsiders. Metal music is harsh, and in-your-face. Metal music speaks about struggles, pain, life, and death etc.....(Things that people don't want to hear) Metal is NOT trendy. Neither is long hair. Anotherreason for long-haired metal heads is the infamous "HEADBANGING". Headbanging just dosent feel right without the long hair..

I've been lost in a jungle
For an hour and fifteen days
Hopelessly searching for exits
In this lethal maze
Footsteps I have taken
Each one driving me insane
Always turning in circles
In this hostile jungle
Having dropped my last piece of food
The most vital thing I never wished to loose
I slipped and found myself in a dark place like hell
At the bottom of a pit where I had fell
Surrounded by a rancid smell
Of corpses that previously fell
Among bones shredded flesh and crawling maggots
Then I knew that I shall stay there to rot
Gashes appearing everywhere
Scars I'm wishing in despair
Before maggots devoured my insides
I'll commit myself to suicide
Above me I heard people talking
Having lost my voice, I was unable to scream
They had a look and saw me lying in my knees
Then went away thinking I was deceased
Below me no one is talking
If you have your voice, just once you're screaming
Have a fast look before falling on your knees
No hope is left when you are deceased
Gorguts!!! \m/
But i love the way they talk!!!!

Alot of us Jazz nerds and classical nerds have long hair :)
When I was a kid, "longhaired music" meant "classical". Not sure if it still does....
Bill
I don't own any Metallica shirts or any black t-shirts for that matter. I don't play guitar either. I like some metal, but mostly 80's stuff like Poison and AC/DC and the like, and yet am far from being the "rocker" that you say that ALL longhairs are.
Next month, if you hold on waiting, I will make an update and, you'll probably find me wearing a polo-type shirt and some well-pressed khaki pants!
I'm no rocker. I'm a classical guitarist.
You may not play rock but you listen to it.That makes you a rocker, though not in the sense that DaPs is talking about.
Arrick
A most interesting thought for sure. I do believe however that you have hit on something that is correct.
Justin~
Hey I'm growing my hair, playing guitar and I'm wearing a Metallica t-shirt right now!And next time I'll be wearing an Iron Maiden t-shirt if that is ok with you :P I don't think there's anything wrong with being a rocker...Oh and Joe Satriani rulzz :)
Ah. Well, in that case... ROCK ON!!!!
>:D
Ummm, i'm sure you heard this many times in this post, but i'm another example. I don't play guitar at all, i play cello. Though i don't mind listening to any kind of music, i listen mainly to classical music (except for the boring songs, i can't stand listening to those). Rather than being involved in a band, i'm in an orchestra and on the school robotics team (long hair makes the robotic competitions 10 times funner).
I do agree with SOADdude. Not every longhair is the same.
This is one long hair who is not a rocker. In fact I can't
carry a tune with a handle on it.
Fortunetly I have the sense to not even try to get on
American Idol.
Well, I´m one of those rockers. And I´m growing my hair out partly because of my love for metal. I can´t see any problem with that though. :)
I'm with Erik, yeah i am a rocker, and i fit the stereotype, wwwwooooaaaaaaahhhhh rock forever wwwoooaaaaaaahhhh, and i am proud of it!!!!!!!
Although I like Rock, I also like Jazz, Classical (what used to be called "long-haired music"!), Gospel, Bluegrass, Irish music, etc. Pretty much everything but Rap (sorry, but IMHO, it's not really music.) I'm 43, and a source of embarrassment to my teenage sons when I dance (that's what I call it anyway). :D
BTW, I wish my boys (who are rockers!) would quit cutting their hair down to 1/2 inch or shorter! They inherited my big ol' noggin, and it makes their heads look like an orange on a toothpick! My 19 yr old son says his forehead is prominent enough that his friends call it a "fivehead".
Lon
I like all types of music. But i really don't like stuff when they just shoutand scream or really heavy rock.
I like dance, rnb, house, garage, rap, indie......
I am growing my hair to become independant of the rest of society, meaning that i do not have to stick to what other people tell me to do. I can have my hair as i like it and that is one more step to becoming my own man and not a social conformist.
I'm not a rocker either, although I do attempt to play the guitar; mostly easy listening (Eagles, Cat Stevens, etc), and some Christian music.
I'm not a rocker, liked ozzy when I was a lot younger. I'm not growing my hair long so I can look loike a rock star, even though I hear people say " what are you a rock star or something" I have wanted long hair for a long time and almost a year ago I stop getting hair cuts to let my hair grow. Long hair is just cool.
Just have to mention this also, I was the only white kid growing up in the 80's listing to rap music. While other kids where jamming out to Poison or Motley crue, all the big hair bands. I was into Run DMC, Fat Boys, Slick Rick, I was aware of my skin color and was never trying to be something i wasn't. Todays white kids are trying to be black, I will always love rap music, only old school. The new thing is all about Money, cars big houses and bitches. Not my thing, just some good old hip hop. I also listing to H.I.M, CKY Johny Cash, Jazz, Mazzy Star. anything that sounds good to me. Never judge a book by its cover.
Why do I annoy you?
You can feel free to do whatever you please, but why can't you grant me the same liberty?
For the record, I don't have a metallica t-shirt or a guitar, but I guess I still fit the image that annoys you...
