Hi everyone, bit of advice needed, i am at the 5 month stage, from a skinhead, up till now no problems, but i have noticed the back seems to grow quicker, and also on the top of my head it seems to be finer hair, is this normal? .Is it best to just grin and bear it and it will improve in time or get a little trim.My hair itself is in good condition. thanks guys, enjoy reading and seeing all the updates. Welcome, Johnny! I'd say no maintenance cuts if your hair is in good condition unless you want to even it up. Yes, that's exactly what you want but I mean 5 months I think that's just pointless since you'll just slow down your hair journey. I was also planning to even it up in May when I'd make exactly 1 year of growing but realised that would mean a lot of hair in the back would get cut so I'm settle for just a little trim for split ends without evening up.
Also, I'm not sure if it's normal but my hair also thicker at the back so don't worry =} And it's probably not that your hair is growing faster at the back but that bangs are way too high on the head. Even if that's not the reason that's in your genes so embrace it.
Welcome again and I wish you a lot of success in growing out!
My back seems to grow thicker/better than the front, top, but i would think this is just due to the amount of hair at the back, gravity from them being straight down etc. I'm at 8.5months with no trims so far, anything you do will only result in longer growth time.
No need for worry. All sounds 100% normal at the stage you are at. Just let all the hair continue to grow and vear away from any cutting devices.
Probably not - use of scissors seriously damages ,ong hair. However if it is WAY out of line maybe, just maybe, once but by no more than half an inch.
Hi Jonny,
I would say there are no need for maintenance cuts at all. It is perfectly normal for the back hair to grow faster and also be thicker than the hair on top. It is great to see guys that used to have buzzcuts embarking on this new journey to long hair, rest assured that it is VERY rewarding!
All the best and keep it growing,
David
Thanks everyone for the advice, im going to just go with it for now and post a six month photo in april. cheers. jonny H uk
Hi
Johnny
That is Easy NO MAINTAINANCE CUTS required because you are growing your hair long again not having a Skinhead haircut no more !

Geez, Come on and give the guy a break. Hair grows back and maintainance cuts are for the better some times so the guy doesn't look like a total slob.
I experienced the same problem when I was growing my hair out and cut the back myself. I didn't turn out too bad and looked a lot better than it did before. It gave
my hair a change to grow out evenly and now I have sweet long hair.
Extend the time between trims, but trims will make your hair look better while growing. And if you feel better about yourself while it's growing, you're less likely to decide to cut it. But find a stylist that you trust to only trim 1/8 inch or so at a time.
Most women get trims while growing their hair...that's why their hair usually looks better during the growing process.
I got mine trimmed every 12 weeks. It took 3 years to reach my waist.
