I suppose that would be the age-old question when it comes to long hair..
But I would like some input. I have a couple of female friends that claims I should have mine trimmed. One of them says she'll even do it for me, as she has been cutting others people's hair before.
They claim I should have it trimmed because of split ends, and because, as they say, having all one length hair looks better. Now, I don't know if I actually have split ends or not, I can't really tell. To me, my hair looks fine, except that yeah, it does look a little uneven at the ends, as in that they're different lengths and such.
I don't really feel like having a trim, but yeah, I would like to hear your input. Is it really neccessary? I'll see if I can get up a picture of it sometime later, but it is not guarantueed, as I am a bit of a skeptic when it comes to the internet, and pictures. <_<
Hi, Soilwork and welcome. Anybody would give you a different piece of advice on that one but I'd rather go without the trims in beginning because I'm yearn to have it long and cannot wait. Trims will slow progress down. Of course, if there's damage a trim would fix it but as long as you take good care of it (no heating devices for curling, straightening, blowdryers at a high temperature, dying,etc...)you won't need trims.
Split-ends can be nasty but some people don't get them and I'm not so sure whether they'll cause greater damage in the future.
Now the thing about all-one-length hair. I also want to have it but lately I decided I'd like first to have messy uneven hair (but longer) and maybe when it gets at least to the shoulders I'll even it up. Hope this helps :>
NOT to trim.
Forget it unless your hair is grossly bad, scissors are injurious to long hair - however well meaning their owner.
OK, this is "the scoop" on split ends...
First, it helps to know whether or not you have 'em. To find out, stand in front of a sunny window, --- the best time being either early morning, or late in the day (when the angle of the sun is strong). If your eyesight is excellent at close-range, no need to wear glasses; otherwise, you'll need reading glasses to find the splits.
Toss your hair forward, with the sun back-lighting it; but not where the sun will blind you in your eyes (in other words, where you are standing back a ways in the shadows). Now look at the ends of your hair, rummaging slowly around to inspect your mane. Split, broken, and damaged ends will be hands-down OBVIOUS, if you have followed my above instructions as i've suggested.
IF you have split ends (not everybody gets 'em, those lucky dudes who don't...), you will probably be very grossed-out at how ugly and unpleasant they are indeed, --- AND they make running a comb through your hair a constant battle with snags and snarls. The ends not only look bad; they also FEEL dry, rough, and brittle...
Now that you know this (if you indeed have found some split ends)... Why on Earth would you want to keep them??? If your split ends are few and far between, you can chase after them yourself, using the "Search and Destroy" method (where you cut off the idividual offenders yourself). If your split ends are REALLY BAD... then I would definitely go in to a reputable hair stylist (but one who specializes in long hair) for a professional trim. Once splits are removed, a comb will suddenly feel like it glides through your hair like magic afterwards, --- and your hair will feel soft & smooth to the touch, and well worth having taken care of!
As far as cutting you hair all one length (AKA "blunt-cut"), that's a matter of style preference. i prefer a more natural-looking "V-shape' in back, myself (which is exactly what I ask my hair stylist to do, when I do go in to see one, that is - lol).
Hope this info helped.
