Thanks for the warm welcomes and the advise. However, the issue is not with hair failing out per se, but with my hair being pulled from combing. The only time I can properly comb my hair is when it is wet, and even during this time I take extra care in brushing my hair. In other words, I brush my hair as gently as possible, often times resorting to evaluating the brush for hairs after every stroke. However, even when doing this my brush tends to have 3 or four pieces of hairs accumulated. my fingers also tend to catch a few hairs on them. Would these hairs be pulled hairs from brushing or hairs that had already come out of their roots and were just sitting under the top layers of hair waiting to be removed? Is this something that would be deemed normal for the growing out phase of hair? I'm concerned because this never happened when my hair was short (or maybe I just didn't pay attention or notice and wasn't too concerned about my hair at the time as much as I am now). By the way: I'm closing in on my 8th month of hair growth. And advise and/or help would be truly appreciated. Thanks.
This is a question I would like to see what other say too. I too lose quite a lot of hair when brushing, and washing. Ive been told that its nothing to worry about, and the reason why we notice it more is because of its length. When its short, you dont notice it so much. How true is this, or is there reason for concern.?
A human loses on average 100 strands per day.
As far as I know, you loose about 100 strands a day. Some days more, some days less. It´s perfectly normal. These hairs would end up on the hairdressers floor if you had short hair.
There are a couple things to try that might reduce breakage/hair loss while combing.
Conditioner (in the shower) helps make hair more slippery, making it easier to comb and making tangles easier to go through
Also, when you comb, start at the tips. if you start at the top and there are small tangles, you just push them down and they catch more hair, and eventually make bad tangles which you probably comb through.
Fingercombing before/while combing also helps.
Plus, it's probably just normal shedding, I lose about 20-30 hairs on average when I wash my hair in the shower (twice a week). You just didn't notice it when your hair was shorter because there was less mass, but now that it's getting longer it's more noticeable cause the hair is longer.
Hope I helped, Keep it growing!!
