I just wanted to let everyone know that after meeting my good long-haired D.C. friends, my flight to San Antonio via Memphis was delayed because of last Friday's storm, and I was stuck in Memphis for a couple of days. I made the best of it by visiting Graceland and Beale Street. A long-haired dreadlocked African American hawker convinced me to eat at a great cafe on Beale Street. It was the best rack of barbequed ribs I've ever eaten (next to mine). It was a blessing in disguise!

Wow. Yeh, you deffinitely saw both sides of the split-personality weather that we can get this time of year. Glad you made it safely.
I visited Graceland in the 90s, and I still have the ticket stub stuck away somewhere. I don't think you can really understand America without a visit to Graceland. We have no royalty, so Elvis was "The King". A poor Southern White boy who sang Black music. A Christian who sang "the Devil's music". An entrepreneur with TCB (for Takin' Care of Business) painted on the side of his private Jet; but the office at Graceland looks like any other low-budget pre-computer office from the 1970s. He died from a combination of his own excess, and incompetent medical care. You can see everything that's good and bad about us through the prism of Elvis and his life.
Nevermind all that though. just listen to his music. That's the lasting legacy.
I definitely prferred the milder side of D.C. I nearly froze my Texas arse off while touring Arlington Nat'l Cemetary and changing trains in the sleet. Now I know why I'm in Texas, even if some of its citizens aren't the brightest, especially those living outside of Waco.

You must have been to Blues City Cafe! Great eats. Although honestly after having lived in Memphis for fourteen years, I have still never been to Graceland. Its in a really shady area of town. Glad you had a good time here!
Right you are, Allen. I never even thought to check on Tennessee and Arkansas mlhh members while there. I was getting antsy about getting home. TLH
