Yup, hair is meant to be naturally long but people also are meant to be naked so that's what's wrong with hair and clothes :@ I wash my hair it's great (after the grease is gone) I put a little conditioner and it gets really really smooth... THEN I put let's say I have a sweatshirt that has a tight head opening and while it passes through my hair it creates so many tangles and leave hairs dried out of the just completely wet hair. So even if I don't towel dry it's inevitable and tangles as well.
I guess you just have to get used to that and hey now that it is getting warmer shirts wouldn't create as much tangles as sweatshirts I suppose =}
I hate pulling hairs out when putting my school bag on and off, and my collar makes it do strange things.
Longhairs learn that anything that must be pulled over your head is going to mess up your hair. For me, T-shirts are fine because I'll wear one all day. Sweatshirts do not work so well if they are the pullover kind, because they will make a mess of my hair when it gets warmer (as is inevitable during the day) and I will pull them off. They also pull like crazy during removal and this is not comfortable.
So I tend to wear T-shirts, but anything over that will button or zip in the front.

Alas, I know just what you are talking about as when I was probably around your age the same would sometimes drive me up a wall.
Just do some experimenting and suddenly you will find your own way of getting in and out of any kind of shirt with great ease.
Example,(but this is about myself with waist length hair.)
Have hair in a ponytail and make sure all of the hair goes through the opening of the shirt first. Keep your head in a downward position throughout this time and as you pull the shirt over your head. Presto..............all is a breeze and takes no time at all.

Thats actually a handy tip, never thought of that. The amount of times my pony tail gets pulled out loose when putting a sweatshirt on !! Nice 1 Justin.
Yeah, that's a good tip but my hair isn't that long yet for a full ponytail :/ Btw, Justin, I wanted to ask you since you said that when you were young you had very oily hair too and that sometimes you ended up washing it a few times a day. Well, mine is like yours and the way it looks after I wash it makes me get mad after 12 hours. Then it looks nothing like before... Washing less doesn't help, makes it worse.
Could you give me some tips if you found something that worked back then or the only way was to wash it again?
Perhaps try this:
Make sure the shirt is all bunched-up so to look as flat as possible. With your head still in a downward position pull the neck opening as wide as you are able to and push your head through. This may very well help alot.
I hear you loud and clear on that one. At your age I had no solution either. Sorry.
Of course back then, ALL guys (to the best of my knowledge) used a blow-dryer.............and we used it on hot! In fact, none of us had the knowledge of hair care in my generation that you are now reading on the Hyperboard. Strange as it may sound, our long hair looked VERY GOOD despite! But, the guys that post to this board have (and I'll call it "High Tech" information) made for the best looking long hair of all.
A suggestion that just might help you:
Go to a Salon and purchase a Shampoo to "Clarify." This is different than the "usual" and may very well help with the oil problem you now face. You have mentioned some difficult times dealing with tangles, knots and snarls. While at a Salon, have someone there check your hair for "Split-Ends." (Can these ever be nasty.) Ask at a number of Salons if you desire and see if you get the same answer. "If" you are told that you have "Split-Ends" have them removed pronto...............and ONLY the hairs with the splits. What this means is that any hair found with a Split-End be cut just above the split. This is NOT a trim. But, it can sure make "long hair life" a true pleasure to be rid of for those that have problems in that area.
Best of luck to you.
have you tried washes with shampoo only?perhaps it wouldn't oil up as quick if you do that
Justin: I'll try to find a clarifying shampoo next time for the oil problem, thanks. And about the tangles - I don't think I have split ends, I mean I have a lot of uneven ends but I checked a lot of them and they all go to the roots without being part of any other hairs. No splits, I think... But when I do put clothes on even though they're not from wool or anything sometimes they still give static electricity, that's why it makes it difficult to comb. But in general it's easy to comb, very easy actually if I've fingercombed before. :) I'm planning to get a trim at the end of May anyway so my hair will just have to wait till then :P
Cerebral Assassin: Yes, I read about that last week and I tried it, it helped a bit but only a bit. So I'm still using conditioner but little of it and only on the ends because it makes my hair softer. Thanks for the tip though and then again I think it would be nice to wash it once in a while with shampoo only.
First off the Static you hear is normal when the climate is dry, and the dryer it is the more static which can actually be seen in the dark.
Cerebral Assassin brings up a very good point with the Shampoo.
I myself would be very tempted at this point to "try" for a while (week or so) Shampoo only and see how that does. No Conditioner in your particular case may turn out to be the key to success because of your rapid and abundent supply of oil.
There is a solution for everybody. But the trouble is in finding it. Never fear, you WILL eventually find the key to your problem.
Just keep experimenting and don't give-up.
zip up hoodies are your friend!!
zip up hoodies are your friend!!
I used to do that, because I was still putting the sweatshirt on the same way I used to -- just pulling it over my head. Then I noticed my sister (with long hair) did it differently. She put her arms through all the way, then grasped the back of the sweatshirt from neck to waist (all scrunched up). Then it's easy to put the whole lot over your head without it pulling much on your hair.
I was hoping it would be warmer... last week in London it was warm and sunny (e.g. my previous picture) and I put away all my sweaters, right now it's snowing and 2C :S
Right, a wardrobe change is part of the long hair adjustment process.
If you ever wore turtlenecks you will at some point have to decide between them and long hair. Putting them on isn't the worst part; the problem is taking them off. For anything that pulls over, you are going to find yourself moving towards shirts etc. that have bigger neck openings like v-neck sweaters, "polo" shirts (a.k.a. golf shirts or sports shirts) or things that zip up or button up in the front like hoodies and cardigan sweaters. Crew neck sweaters are okay if they have a big neck hole and are stretchable.
I know what you mean. I sometimes have problem with hair and clothes too. Everytime I take my schoolbag hair will be trapped between my shoulder and the bag. I try to minimize the damage by getting my hair out of the way. I also sometimes have trouble with my coat - somehow hair seems to stick to it between buttons that are on my neck.
Anyway, there's nothing much you can do about it really. You learn to live with it :-)
