I don't like putting "stuff" in my hair (gels/creams/leave-ins, etc.), but I might be interested in gels.
Luckskind recommended L'oreal Melting Gel. Also, I've been using Aussie brand shampoo and conditioner, and I love them, and Aussie gel got good reviews too. So I'll probably try one of those, probably L'oreal though.
Does gel help both to tame frizz and to keep the hair relatively untangled? Recently I've been finding my hair gets messy over the course of the day and I need to comb it a few times. I imagine gel would help with this somewhat. I also have some hairs that have irritatingly been cut short by my glasses hinge (I want new glasses)... maybe gel could help keep those in place, as well as keep hair together and away from the hinge? I dunno.
Here is what I have done that works for me:
1.)Wet both hands with water.
2.) Put just a "little bit" of Gel in the palm of one hand.
3.) Rub both hands together.
4.) Smooth all down over dry hair.
When I do it myself, the gel is not detected in the slighest. And the fly-away hairs DO tend to stay put all day long.
Hope this might be of help to you.
I've tried many, many hair gels and my favorite by far is "American Crew Light Styling Gel 8 Oz". Very light and non-sticky and does a great job keeping the fly-away hairs down. A bit on the costly side, but well worth it for me.
Good luck-
