I started growing my hair in Sept. so I guess that would be 7 months. I'd like to think it's average maybe even slightly above average in growth speed.
Pics (not the best, and they're phone pics, but bear with me):

What REALLY bugs me is the stupid flippiness at the ends in the back. It looks bad, and it's just plain annoying. I use anti-poof shampoo and straightening conditioner both which help a lot, but neither fix the problem.
In addition to the usual comments, can anyone tell me how long it will be:
a) For the flippiness to go away - how many more months?
b) For all the hair to fit into a ponytail - how many months?
c) For a low, comfortable ponytail - how many months?
My guess is about 3 months for the flippiness, 6 months for a ponytail and probably 9 months more (i.e. 16 total) for a low one.
Comments and answers?
It is looking fantastic for 7 months. You are lucky!
Being in the "Awkward Stage," nothing really seems to do the trick 100% for anyone. Letting it grow is just the only way to get to long hair that looks "tame." Best thing of all (if you can do it) is to "enjoy" the stages you pass through to long hair as there is a "new-look" everyday.
My guess: your hair has to clear your shoulders by alot so you are looking at 2 years. (There is a slight Awkward Stage after the one you are in right now.) Hence my guess.
A short one in 6 more months........but all of the hair won't be long enough to quite make it.
I am not sure what you consider "low" so will guess at mid-back. Two more years.
Please remember all of the above are guesses as you may be one of the special lucky guys to have hair that grows faster than the normal rate of 1/2" per month.
Just hang-in-there. You WILL have splendid long hair!
ps: And, the fastest way to long hair is to avoid trims and even-ups if at all possible. (But DO have any Split-Ends that may appear targeted and cut just above the split. This is NOT a trim however and not everybody gets split-end problems.) Hair growing all by itself on its own evens itself out perfectly all by itself.
I would say it's looking very good indeed! It's always great to be blessed with fast growing hair.
I would not be worried about the flips on the ends at all. As your hair gets longer, gravity will weigh it down more, and the flips will turn into gentle waves at the ends.
To achieve a rudimentary, high, ponytail, you will probably need another 4-6 months or so of growth. To achieve a full, relatively low ponytail at the base of the neck, where all the hair fits into the tie, your bangs need to be a couple of inches past your chin (the bangs are most important because they have the furthest to go to reach the tie) Your bangs are at about eye length now, so another 6 inches or roughly year of growth should do it. (It may not even take that long, if your hair grows fast)
Do you have a final goal in mind?
Keep it growing,
David
Hey, your hair's looking really good! Don't worry about the flips, as David and Justin have said. They'll go away in about 4-6 months as gravity takes hold. As for a basic ponytail, you've got maybe 6-8 months to go, and for a comfortable pony, I'd say another 12-16 months. Those are my guesses anyways. Keep it growing and avoid maintenance trims, only trim the occasional split end! =)

Sounds like it will be longer then I thought to do anything with my hair -- however, I'm in it for the long haul.
My goal isn't extremely long. Probably just 3-5" or so past the shoulders? Enough for a low ponytail, but not out of control long.
Thanks for the help :) I only wish my hair were straighter. I don't like my wavy hair, because I think hair should either be bone straight or very curly. Waves are just a pain.
BTW, I think my hair is a little faster than normal although not hugely so. However, whenever I would get a tiny trim, it would be back the way it was pre-trim within 3 weeks or so.
I'm gonna guess my hair is probably like 3/4" per month instead of 1/2.
Cool hair. The flippiness is due to your hair resting againt your back, collar, shoulders, etc. They should slow down/stop once you pass shoulder length, but by then you will barely even notice them. All the hair should fit in a low ponytail in about 10 months, more or less. Keep it growing and good luck!
