Greetings all!
I just got a new laptop and want to keep the system as clean as possible, so I'm considering some open source applications. Anyone have thoughts on OpenOffice? Are there any good open source image editing applications?
Thanks!
Jeremy

E-mail me (go to my name in the directory, click on "White Tail in the SouthWest U.S. desert".) I have a pre-written email with links to several valuable sites to protect your computer. Open Office is perfect for the home user and the price is right.

I'm not a heavy user of "office" software, but I needed it to open documents that PHBs would send me. It did a fine job of opening everything I was sent. I'm sure it's not perfect, but they seem to have done a decent job of unraveling Microsoft formats to at least make it workable. If you are creating and maintaining your own documents with it, this won't be a problem at all.

The biggest one is GIMP. If you are running Windows, I'm not sure how well it will work.
I've been thinking about trying Open Office myself.I built the computer I'm using now.I built it for gaming. It dosen't have MS office.Just bought the OS(XP pro).I'm also interested in trying Linux.Acquiring parts now to build my next computer. This one is 4 years old, losing its edge. The new one will be dual os.I've got a sister that works with graphics.I'll ask her about open source imaging apps.

I used Open Office for awhile. It was the source of many headaches for me. It was OK for me to use to work and print on my own computer but saving the files in .DOC or .XLS format and emailing them (like to teachers to turn the assignment in) never worked out. So I just goT a cOpy of micRsoft woRd and usEd it to turN my work in To school.
Haha, it's fine to talk about BitTorrent/piracy on here.
GIMP is a great open source image editing application.
