Decided I might grow my hair long. To my peers, it is really long. To me, not long enough. I hope the picture goes through right and feel free to give me any advice or support or anything. It's always a little freeminded in back and it likes to flip out but I think I like that. And the front keeps bopping me in the face but more length or gel will fix.
hi there,
I'd have to say the best advice I can give you is to not go near scissors for at least 2 years (exception:snipping off of split ends).what's your goal length?you should just let it grow uninterrupted until you get to that length.
as for the bangs..there is a variety of ways to keep them out of your face:gel, hairspray, bandana's,caps, alice bands, hair pins,etc..
Your bangs seem long enough not to be such a hassle. How long have you been growing it? Wish you the best in growing it!

I'm only 8 months in, but I think the best advice I can give you is to keep the attitude you have. It's so easy to get frustrated with all the things it does (mine flipps up and out in the back, gets random curls, gets in my face, decides to look like a lion's mane for a day, and so on), and I'm finding that a little bit of acceptance for oneself goes a long way. It's much easier to embrace what you have than to spend lots of time and effort to make it different.
Good luck, and keep it growing!

I understand what you mean about the too long/not long enough perspective, that's something that all longhairs go through when they realize they want to be longhairs. Its like your whole frame of reference just switches. I went from not even noticing long hair to suddenly seeing it everywhere (on the street and in movies, etx) when I made that leap.
Anyway you have a great start and great lookin hair, straight is easy to grow. Welcome to the board, you will get all the help you need here. Good luck
Welcome to the community and the awkward phase! :-)
The best thing you can do is let it grow and avoid scissors.
Meanwhile, You can try applying some gel or a baseball cap could help too.
Cheers!
Hi Antesse,
Welcome to our community, its always great to see new faces here. Your hair is looking great, I am so happy for you that you are growing it long. You have relatively straight hair that should be easy to grow super long, do you have a goal?
All the best,
David
Really in response to all the posts...
DavidN: Planning to grow it to shoulders or a bit further perhaps but will see when I get there. More of an adventure than a destination.
Chris_H: Baseball cap and gel, check and check. I always had my baseball cap for a couple of months now because often that is the only "quick" way to tame it.
ChrisG: I do notice it around and the people who do have longer hair do look good with it. And you often just is part of the person; longhairs have long hair and are not just people with long hair plopped on.
Mouse: My hair is never the same and that is what I like. It has a character of its own and sometimes I let it decide what to do and not even pull out my comb.
grrrrr: Been growing it for a while now. Last haircut was February 3....because I was going to grad school interviews for a few weeks following and had a date that night. I left it "long" and the haircut person did some trimming and shaping so that it was not so unmanageable. All in all, it was less than an inch at bottom and at top and some middle hairs got made to a shorter length. Which means I had no option of ponytail for a while and still really do not. But my hair has always been on the longer side and so time growing it....I will say since last summer with a trim in February.
CeReBralASsasSin: Wow, interesting name. Goal length is mentioned up above. Hair taming supplies....gonna be on the lookout for some stuff that looks very "manly" or like something a warrior would wear. As a funny side note since this is the last person to respond to....back last Hallowe'en, I borrowed a few hair ties from a female friend (pink and purple ones) and had a costume as a mad scientist complete with bouncy pigtails....because that is something a mad scientist might do.
Anyway, a shout out to all y'all and best wishes with your hair.
