I had a trim today and for the first time in over a year I can run a comb from the top of my hair to the very ends without hitting a tangle. The trim has made my hair much better to work with. Also, the stylist recommended a product that really helps a lot. It is Bonacure Repair by Schwarzkopf. This seals the ends of the hair to protect from split ends. It is rather expensive, but seems to be worth the money. Anyway, I only lost about half an inch of hair. I actually expected to loose more as my ends were badly damaged. They told me that if I wanted my hair to get longer that it would be in my best interest to get a very small trim every two months and DO NOT BLOW DRY! After today I believe they are right. It is clear from the picture that I didn't loose much hair. I only wish I had done this sooner. BTW, be careful where you go for your trim as some shops may not be too cool with long hair on a man. The shop that I went to states that they specialize in long hair. This was the reason that I went there.
Good luck.
Jeffrey.
This is the product, Bonacure Repair by Schwarzkopf, that I mentioned in the above post. The product is simply too good not to post a picture. Also, in the picture is wide-tooth comb.
Jeffrey.
Your hair looks super, but didn't you have MPB, well if you do it isn't noticeable in the pic.
Anyway, everything looks great!
Simon
Hi, Simon.
Thanks.
Yes, I did have a little MPB going on. I have been taking Avodart for a while now and I have reversed much of the damage, however my hair is still a bit thin on top. I should point out that I have had a receding hairline in the front since high school. The key to preventing, or slowing MPB is to catch it early.
Anyway, are you going to grow your hair out again? It looks fine the way it is, but you look good with long hair too.
Thanks again.
Jeffrey.
Yeah i will grow it out again as soon as all the dye is gone from the hair, because i wanna start fresh with only my natural haircolor and there's still some dyed shit left, i can say for sure that i'll never ever gonna color my hair again.
Simon
Hi Jeffrey,
I have to agree that your hair looks outstanding in the picture, it is straight, shiny, and in superb condition. (Is your hair wet in this picture, also, is your hair normally this straight?) Obviously the trim worked for you, it was awesome that you only lost 1/2 inch. I have thought about trims for my ends but I don't know if there any salons in my area that specialize in men's long hair, hence the fear of losing too much length. Also, my hair grows much slower than yours.
Also, your crown area appears in perfect shape, displaying none of the symptoms of MPB that you have mentioned earlier. Obviuosly, the avodart is working very well. I have been on the propecia for around 3 1/2 months now, still don't see much effect, perhaps I started taking it too late in life for it to help.
Have you decided on a final goal? Obviuosly, now that your ends are in such great shape you should be able to achieve waist length with ease!
All the best,
David
Thanks for the kind words.
Actually, my hair is dry in the picture. I do take very good care of my hair, but due to the nature of my job and the places that I go, such as Florida, I sweat a lot and sweat is really tough on my hair.
I do think that the Avodart has helped tremendously. I certainly don't think that you started too late. I would stick with the program and be very patient. I think that it may be a year, or more before these drugs really kick in.
My hair is shiny and I suspect that it may be due to the supplements that I take which includes Flax Seed Oil. I also eat Sardines which contain important fish oils. I think that the Omega 3 and 6 Oils are very important. I got the idea from seeing Eskimos with shiny hair. Their diet usually contains certain fats that probably make their hair shiny. Keep in mind that these are not trans-fatty acids which I try to avoid if at all possible. I know you know all this since you are a Chemist, but it never hurts to say it again.
Jeffrey.
Looking good Jeffery. I must say the natural looking pics (sans shirt) are quite stylish, though I worry what we'll be exposed to once you reach waist length.
Joking aside, I think your hair looks good and I am glad you found aproduct to help guard against split ends (and thus the need for maintenance trims).
I would like to recommend a line, a non-"salon only" line also by Schwarzkopf: the üGot2Be line, specifically the höttie line (light blue bottles). There are shampoos, conditioners, 3-minute oil treatments (which rinse out even with just water!), and a leave-in hair repairing moisturizer. I love these products and they trump anything I've tried previously including my long-loved Infusium23 and the antifrizz serums. (And they smell good - mildly like a piña colada but without the rum.)
Keep on growing, everyone!

Thanks, Shawn. I will check out those products as I'm sure they are great. This stuff that I have now is incredible. Between that and the trim my hair is 100% better.
When I reach waist length... Ahhh...That was a good one, Shawn!
Well, I would certainly be more conservative at that point. I think.
Well, I better get out of here as I have a long way to go.
Thanks again.
Jeffrey.
Greetings Jeffrey:
Thanks for sharing your pic and product info. Seems like your hair and mine are pretty much the same texture-wise (fine and straight) and color. My hair tends to tangle very easily even thought it's only about 6 inches long and even at this early stage I'm considering a very slight trim of the ends. But to find someone trustworthy enought...
You are yet another longhair on here that I can look to for motivation, being the "newbie" that I am. Thanks and keep up the good work...yer hair's lookin' great!
Cheers,
Max
Hey Jeffrey
Absolutely breathtaking long hair if there ever was. Too sensational for words. And the colour........WOW!
I am so glad that you have all figured-out as to what works best for your mane and how to tend to it.
To sum it up all in one word: Spectacular!
Justin~
Looks great Jeffrey!
Sounds like you found a great stylist too. I quit going to mine a few years ago, because I would tell her to take off an inch and she'd take off 3 or 4! lol
And definitely JUST SAY NO in regards to that blow dryer! lol
Your hair will thank you. =o)
