Hello all,
Some weeks ago i discover how brushing my hair make them look better and shynier, and prevent my scalp from itching. but i also discover how munch tangles i have :(
and when i looked close to the tangles i saw a lot of split ends...
I'm affraid of damaging my hair by brushing it, beceause of the tangles.
so what do you think i should do ? i can't stop brushing my hair or it will look really messy but i neither want to damage it... does untagling my hair damage it ?

Hi Angel,
Sorry to hear about your tangles and split ends problems. The best way to deal with tangles in your hair is by gently removing them with your fingers. It may take time, but the time to remove them is well worth it. Detangling hair is never harmful, provided you do it correctly. I would never attempt to remove tangles either by brushing or combing, although using a wide tooth comb (SLOWLY and GENTLY), is an option, but it's always best to remove as many as possible with your fingers first.
Brushing hair is OK provided your hair is THOROUGHLY dry (never brush when wet or damp, this is brutal on hair), and thoroughly detangled BEFORE you brush. However, if your hair is very wavy or curly, it is probably better to forego the brush entirely, and stick with a wide tooth comb. If you do brush, it is probably best to stick with one of the brushes with dull, widely spaced tines, these can still stimulate the scalp, and the wider tines minimize hair damage. The curlier your hair is, the more subject your hair is to breakage. Your hair does not appear to be super curly, but rather wavy from your avatar and your hair journal.
Hope this helps,
David
I don't 100% agree with treating hair as if it is fine silk from acient egypt, ready to fall apart if a brush touches it!
A brush is fine to remove tangle but just make sure you are not too vigorous with it.
Of course, it always helps to treat your hair as if it's fine silk from ancient Egypt;).
Just be very careful when doing it.
Make sure you brush from the tips of your hair and brush the knots out to the roots. DO NOT just brush from the roots and pull, because it will damage your hair.
The safest and most gentle on your hair would be to "Finger-Comb." I do this myself as does EdG and look what he has! After done, you can always (if wanted) follow it up with a wide-toothed comb followed by one not so wide.
Some guys hair can take a brush with apparently no problems, but we all have different hair types. A brush in my hands is a deadly weapon to my hair and rips it to shreds.
You might consider ridding yourself of those Split-ends right away. IN fact, the sooner the better. That in itself will eliminate so many knots and tangles you won't believe.
Good luck to you.
Angel,
Gently untangling it will not damage it, or damage it very little.
Moi, I use a wide tooth comb and conditioner, and comb from the ends up when getting rid of tangles. if you comb from the top towards the ends, you will only push more hair into the tangle, making it harder to get out.
Bonne chance, mon ami!
