if your sick of my split ends talk just ignore this :P
my split ends are still bothering me, it seems that most of them are actually shorter hairs around 1/3 to 1/2 way down my full hair length (i suspect there from broken strands) i dont want to cut off a year of hair and doing them individually is insanely hard.
from what i gather split ends are the beggining of the end for your hair, they make more and more then travel and your hair is ruined. is this true? do i really need to do osmething about my split ends so soon? it seems there travelling pretty fast.some at 1cm now. Are split ends really...the end? or ar ethey just sometihng that everyone gets and have to be put up with?
is it worth it getting only 2-3 cm of hair off in order to destroy at least a few of them?
Thanks,
from a very confused Themuffinman
Having long hair can be like a tempestuous Tango: we love love love it luxuriously loooooooooooooong and flowing; but along comes something to spoil our joy in the dance, --- the hair "Axis of Evil"... split, broken, and otherwise damaged ends.
And just like watching a good dance couple on the Ballroom floor, the drama of "I love you / I hate you / come closer / go away!" plays along with the exotic Argentine rhythms...
"Should I trim?"
"NO, I want LENGTH!!!!!"
"But, mere length, at the expense of looking rat-eaten at the ends?"
"No NO, --- the hair must look drop-dead GORGEOUS, the ENVY of all the longhaired Kingdom!!!
"But, if I trim off even so much as one inch, won't all the 'little people' (shorter-haired) notice?"
"Yes, all the world will behold and laugh at your missing inch; but, that is the price you must pay in order to be considered the 'fairest-haired' in the Longhaired Land!"
... Such is my daily conversation within my own head, at least (lol)!!
Seriously, though... at your current length, I wouldn't worry too much about it (EITHER way)... If you feel like going in for a light trim would make you happy, then go for it (but go to a highly reputable salon that specializes in long hair). Conversely, if achieving a super-looooooooooooooong length FAST is your higher priority, then by all means, hold off for as long as you can in going in for that trim.
Everyone's hair is different. Some people just don't get ANY split ends (those lucky ducks... grumble- grumble)... While other people's hair tends to *breed* split ends, even when asleep (lol)! Genetics seem to determine most of what happens; but good hair care routines, --- including tricks like applying small amounts of beneficial oil to the ends --- will certainly help prevent a lot of splits in the future.
Hope that helps, --- and have fun learning the Tango!
