When I had my hair short, the barber/stylist would always cut my neck hair. Now that I have long hair and haven't had a cut in over a year and a half, my neck hair is out of control. I never noticed it until I started wearing my hair up.
Do you guys cut/trim your neck hair, even though your hair is long? Does it look weird? It's driving my crazy.
Hey: Some guys do and some don't. I use a razor to "clean up" my neck on the sides and back down towards my shoulders. Periodically I trim the longer whispy hairs near the base of my ponytail using a trimmer but I don't get too close. I usually leave about 1/2 to 1 in. border. You're right...it shows more when you're hair is pulled back and frankly (I think) it looks neater when trimmed that way. BTW it is easier to have someone else trim it for you. Bruce'ster
Right on man. I usually just have it cut (g/f) with beard trimmers. Time to clean this hair up! Thanks man.
For the first two years, I left the neck hair alone, hoping it would grow long enough to tie back with the rest of my hair in a ponytail. But, terminal length for neck hair seems to be much shorter, so I gave in and trimmed it myself, and continue to do so once or twice a month so that it looks neat when I tie my hair back (which is quite often for business or work situations).
I use a hand held mirror, standing in front of a large mirror. Then pull my hair back with the other hand, and keep it there, right at the hair line. Then, I use a shaving razor to shave off the neck hairs taking care to get close enough to the hairline, but not too close that I cut off the longer hair. It's hard, but with practice I got better.

No, I don't touch it anymore. I used to trim it, but I have werewolf-like neck hair that grows back quickly and drives me crazy when the stubble starts rubbing against collars. For me, my hair also would get caught and pull against the bare skin when it got sweaty too if it was all shaved off. For those reasons, I leave it. Certainly up to you though!
I've never touched my neck hair, and it's grown out quite nicely, even when pulled back into a ponytail.
You're lucky! I waited two years and my neck hair seemed to reach terminal length a while before that. It never got long enough for me to tie it back in my ponytail.

About once a month or less I always do mine. Reason? With the hair in a ponytail, the ponytail is contrasted so much better and is not lost in a thicket of the neck hair which (my opinion only) diminishes the look of the ponytail greatly. The "Contrast" I think is the key here which makes the ponytail really stand-out to its fullest.
Trim/shave it regularly.
You need to take a little care but it is far better
I've never bothered. My neck hair consists of two quite think patches either side of my neck but it all seems to blend in alright. There's no way I'm trusting myself with a razor near my precious locks - especially in such a hard to reach area. I struggle to shave my face, let alone behind my head. I'd say leave it. Do you really want the upkeep? And perhaps it'll look better au naturelle.
I have trimmed some of it when shaving, but it is horribly itchy growing back in....I find just letting grow and occasionally put a little hair product ( i.e. pomade, jojoba oil, etc) takes care of the frizzies....
Good Luck
