After debating it for a while, I finally decided to get a trim today to get rid of a few split ends and even out the hair. I went to the expensive downtown salon. He only charged me $30 instead of $40, and I think the hair looks great. Although, it does feel a bit shorter. He said he took off between a half inch and one inch, though in the middle, it may have been more. This is almost FOUR years of hair growth... some guys get this length in a couple of years. Plus, my hair is thin and fine. Oh well...
Funny thing... the girl at the salon who washed my hair said she was JEALOUS of my hair! That was a nice compliment! She's trying to grow her hair long. I asked the guy who trimmed my hair if a lot of guys with long hair come in, and he said "not as long as your hair." Wow, as far as men go, my hair is definitely longer than most guys (who, if anything, have "long-ish" hair like mine probably was in the awkward phase).
Here's me today after coming back. Normally my hair is wavy, but the guy used a blow drier and brush which made it straight:

Hi Peter,
I just wanted to say that your hair is AWESOME, you were certainly lucky to find a stylist who took off the absolute minimum and left your hair in such fantastic condition. If I thought I could have as much success with finding a stylist as you did, I would seriously consider a small trim myself to improve the ends of my hair. Your hair is full of shine, and looks so thick and healthy, in fact, I am probably just as jealous as your stylist was, lol!
Congratulations, and keep it growing,
David
Thanks David! I think it's the leave-in conditioner that he used. My hair is normally a bit shiny, but today it's even more shiny, and very soft/smooth. I might have to buy some of that leave-in conditioner!
I had been putting off a trim since I know my hair grows so slowly. But, in the end, it was for the best. It was complete chance that I came upon this salon. I figured, the more you pay, the better quality the service. Until I found this place, I had never paid over $20 for a trim or haircut.
I'm glad you found someone who didnt cut off too much
And your hair looks great.your ponytail to.And you have a really nice haircolour
Do you have earrings in both ears?
I want earrings in both ears but because off a heart condition i have, my doctor has recomended that i dont pierce my body
So my mom wont let me.=(
a.
Yes, it was nice to find someone who didn't cut off too much (although any amount is too much in my opinion - just kidding - it needed to be done, and he was very good about only taking off as much as was necessary to remove split ends and even out my hair).
And yes, I've got earrings in both ears! :p
I think earrings with long hair look wicked. Maybe you could check with your doctor again and ask again about getting one earring in each ear. It may not be as bad as any other part of the body, but then again, I'm not a doctor...

Man your hair looks great!
It looks great, Peter!! You found a stylist who knows what they're doing. They're hard to come by!!
Yes, as long as I live in this area, I'll keep going to the same stylist. A bit more expensive than the norm, but worth it for the peace of mind and the quality trim.
The Hair looks GREAT!! I remember about when you started and you have done a great job! keep it up! take care
You got such great hair.
I hope mine will look like yours one time.
She had reason to be jealous. Your hair is very healthy looking and has lots of body to it compensating for any fineness.
Under the right conditions, my hair can look really good. It's now at the point that it's longer than most guys (and many women) have it. Since deciding to grow my hair long, I've taken good care of it. That helps make up for any shortcomings like thin and fine hair... (I hope)! ;)

Your hair looks wonderful, and I'm very happy you found someone you can trust. That's worth the money. Should you ever choose to trim again you'll know where to go.
Do you usually wear your hair loose or in a tail?
Keep it growing!

Although I prefer to wear my hair down, I wear it tied back in a ponytail more often (maybe 70% of the time) for a few reasons:
1. My parents don't like long hair on men, but are more tolerant if I tie it back;
2. For work/business situations, it looks a bit more professional;
3. Sometimes it's just more convenient, like if I'm working on something and don't want to keep brushing hair out of my face or have the wind whip it around
Around the house, on my own time, I almost always wear it down.

Looks great Peter! I'm a huge fan of blunt ends and all-one-length hair. It looks like you have both.
Thanks Jason! Yes, I quite like the blunt ends and all one length too. I had to have a bit more hair taken off to achieve this, but it was worth it. Not as scared as I was two years ago to trim off some hair.

Hi Peter:
Looks like you made a great decision...your hair looks great! Hope mine looks as good at that length...gotta long way to go.
Cheers, Max
... all the compliments make me feel that it was all worth the effort to get this far and helps give me encouragement to keep growing my hair. I think I'm at a middle point now - my hair is longer than a lot of the newer members have, but not nearly as long as some of the older, more established members have.
Thanks again for all the kind words! Keep it growing, guys and gals! :)

So glad you went the more expensive route and got a superb trim. Yikes! Why take a chance on another Salon which could have possibly ruined the great long hair that you have? I am happy for you that all turned out so well. It looks great!
Hi Justin, I took your advice on going to the upscale salon. I was kind of sitting on the fence on that issue wondering if I should try to save a few dollars. But, like you said, at least I know what I'll be getting at the place I've been to before. Why risk a bad trim for the sake of saving $15 or $20? That small savings would mean nothing and could not put back my hair in the event the cheaper family hair salon messed it up. Thanks again!

You have no idea how happy I am for you!!!!
Getting a trim when it is time is great for to reasons...
1. You know your hair is long if you can trim it and you dont feel like you have short hair.
2. It gives the hair a new look without sacrificing much length.
My compliments go out to the stylist and to the one who grew that great head of hair!!!!
peace

Yeah, you're right - although I got some hair trimmed off, I certainly don't feel like I have short hair! If I go for a maintenance trim in 6 to 12 months,I should be able to get away with even less being trimmed off now that the back was evened up to all one length.

So you went for the trim. And it turned out great! Your hair is still very long and the ends look amazing now! I wish you luck in your further growth :P
You have awesome hair, man. All you need to do is lose about 75 pounds, and you will be one sexy guy!
Yes, I know about the weight... but I've lost just over 25 pounds since December. Looking to get back into training with weights again and do it the right way. Then I will be fit, muscular and have nice long hair! :P
