I don't know what's causing it at the moment, but the last few washes of my hair have left it completely shot. It is rough, much wavier than usual, and looks split (it isn't, I checked!). It just looks a bit of a mess and it's really bugging me. I haven't changed my routine at all. I've been using Simple Frequent shampoo and conditioner as I have quite a sensitive scalp. I always air-dry my hair, and lately while it is drying it seems to tangle really easy and feels dry. Once its dried its better, but then gets greasy really quickly! I'm at a lost really. I'm tempted to pick up a deep conditioner and go really easy on my hair for a week - but I don't know whether my hair is dry or not. I know this sounds confusing, it is to me.
It's been months since I've fretted about my hair - it's well past my shoulders and hasn't really given me any trouble. Is anyone experiencing/has experienced a similar problem - just totally unmanageable hair that is spewing out in all directions. It's like I'm back in the "awkward stage" all over again. Hair flipping like crazy, frizziness, and having hair more akin to a birds nest rather then a nice head of thick hair.
All comments/suggestions appreciated.
I think I'm going to try switching brands and see how that goes. On a final note, is there a "good" way to wash hair? I usually just wash it gently with the parting in place, and every so over I'll comb my hair back and give it a good scrub, and then let my hair fall naturally where it wants - so my parting isn't always the same (this gives it a bit of volume when it becomes limp).
Thanks.
This was hard for me to do, but I endured four days some days ago without washing my hair, thereby letting it get all naturally oily and such although its appearance was all flat and greasy looking by the third day. Then after washing, the hair once again had those desirable charactaristics such as managability and a minimal amount of frizziness. It was as if the hair had reset itself by incubating and marinating in its own oils.
Sometimes hair will seem dry that is actually oily. The frequent shampooing dries the hair but increases the scalp's own tendency to produce oil.
In a nutshell, less frequent washing might be a solution. Leave-in conditioner applied to hair either air-dried after washing or even when just combed also works for me to keep everything at bay as well as nourishing the hair with conditioner which at the next washing makes for a minimum amount of tangles even with the hair having been wind-blown and slept on.
do you use a clarifying shampoo? A good clarifying shampoo (i.e. a real one) gets rid of buildup and leaves no residue. It sounds to me like your problem is a buildup of excessive coatings imparted by the shampoo and conditioner you use. Too much and it can lead to tangles and problems. A clarifier gets all that out, then you use your conditioner as usual, basically stripping out the junk and starting over. I do this once a week. Try Suave Daily Clarifying shampoo. It works, leaves no residue and is cheap. I hope it is available where you live.
