I´ve had my goatee now since june 2006. Back then the plan was to see how it turned out. Anyways, now and then I get the urge to completely shave it off. I´m in one of those periods atm and I can´t really decide if I want to keep it or not.
On one hand, the beard makes me look a lot older, which is a good thing. And it´s kinda cool too. On the other hand, the beard kinda desguises my chin and my, what´s it called... you know like the hole in the chin. Also, if I go beardless when my hair gets longer, I worry that I might look too much like a girl. Haha! I mean, I have a pretty slender body too so that´s not helping. That´s why the beard would be great.
Here is a pic from my last update and a pic from june 2006:
Any ideas?
Oh, and btw, be sure to check out my 6 month update in May. :)
I say keep it, but that's biased because I want to grow one myself:P.
Plus, Janne from COB would be proud;)

Yes, Janne my hero!
No wait... that was Alexi. :P Janne is pretty cool too though.
Leave it. I would be happy if I had such a beard already
What's up Erik? Bro that's a tough call. Many times I find myself in a similiar situation. I recently took off my mustache of 2 months and my brother took off his beard after 4 months. We looked like we came out of the 70s. Well, if you do cut/trim it, you can always grow it back. Either way I think it will look good. Change is always refreshing (as long as it's facial hair). Take care!
Yeah, I´m kinda thinking the same way. Although, I have no idea how long it would take for me to regrow it. :/
I would keep it......but thats cos i hope to grow a beard one day :D
Hey Erik, keeping the chin fur is probably a good idea. It does cover that dimple in you chin very well and does make you look older too.
As for being mistaken for a girl, a lot of that depends on how tall you are. You appear to be tall. That may be an illusion due to being very slender. If you are 6'2" tall, being mistaken for a girl is very unlikely. If you are 5'10" tall it becomes a bit more likely. If you are 5'6" tall it becomes likely.
Absalom
Well, I am 180 cms. That is... 5´11". So I am average length for a guy. I don´t think I´m tall enough to completely eliminate the girl factor though. :)
i WOULD DEFINITELY KEEP IT. it looks quite well on you.
Always opinionated, how could I fail you now?
I have a beard, primarily because it compensates for a weak chin, but I keep the beard defined by shaved cheeks, and the bottom of the beard, and keep it about 1/2" long. It makes shaving quick and easy, and though my beard is thick, I can skip a day without scandalizing the public.
However, given your handsome long and thin face, I do not think the chin hair adds to your attractiveness. I would instead let the moustache grow, and this will clearly define your gender, which can be an asset for men with delicate features.
Anthropologically speaking, beards say I am going natural. In contrast, Moustaches are sexier, because they say, in spite of shaving I am leaving this provoative turn on.
Just a humble opinion, of course.

I don´t think a moustache is anything for me yet, I will grow one when I get older though. Thanks anyways! :)
I would be inclined to keep the beard as in my opinion it adds much in blending with the harmony of longer hair. And, it looks great!
But let's just say you decided to shave it off. No big deal because if you didn't like it it really doesn't take all that long to grow it back. (Nothing like waiting for long hair to grow in the slighest.)
As for being mistaken for a girl? What about the sideburns and a shaved face? And besides, isn't the "Bearded Lady" in the Circus usually on the very plump side?
I would do what made me feel the happiest and not worry about what others may think. And besides, just who are "they" anyway? Usually people who can't seem to think for themselves other than: "I have to be doing what everyone else is doing to fit-in with the crowd." Yikes.........what a life!
Yeah you´re right. :)
That style looks good on you.
My blog, with more pics and weird stuff
Here's a woman's point of view. I think that you have a great chin with that cleft and I think it's a shame to cover it. I don't think you could ever look like a girl, Erik.
My idea would be to give a shave a try, and see what you think. You can always grow it back in no time at all! :)
You do have a long face and a pointy chin. The goat emphasizes that. You might try a fuller beard if you want that look to be deemphasized. On the other hand, there's a coolness to that look which you may want! Your beard is not that long, so experimenting with different lengths and areas of coverage can be done over a relatively short period of time if you're so inclined. Have fun!
Bill
I've never been one prone to facial hair, but this is obviously your decision. I'd say shave it and see how you like it. As others have stated, you can always grow it back.
And don't worry about looking like a girl. People will think what they think and that often cannot be changed, so you might as well do what you think is best for you. =)

Looking forward to your update, btw!
Well in my opinion it looks kind of cool.
you look good either way dude...
don't worry about looking like a girl if you shave it,your face is too masculine for that..even though you are slender!
changes are refreshing..as long as these concern facial hair and not scalp hair, lol!!after all, changes in scalp hair are a little more "permanent" then facial hair changes
Hmmmmmmmmm Well ive never been a fan of facial hair myself but im certain I will not be the one to decided the fate of your facial hair !
Axel
Hi Erik,
I would say you look great either way, of course, I am partial to beards myself, just having grown one of my own, but the decision to shave has to be yours and yours alone to make. I would have NO fears of looking like a girl at all if you elect to shave, your features are masculine enough to lay those fears to rest once and for all.
All the best, and looking forward to that May update!
