Reached something of a milestone the other day. April 6 marked six months since my last haircut. I have NEVER gone this long without a haircut before (it was usually 2-3 months between cuts). It's been an interesting journey so far, and I'm both excited and nervous about the next six months to reach the 1-year mark. I'm still tying my hair back after showering so that it dries in a sort of "mini-tail," then removing the band after a couple hours to let it hang straight down instead of drying untied and poofing up.
And I think I've discovered a way to get rid of those curls that continually attack my bangs. I asked my mom how she gets her's to hang straight without curling, and she said after showering she combs her hair straight back, and it just sort of gradually falls back down as it dries and is straighter. So I tried it yesterday morning and while it didn't work quite as well as it does on her, it was an improvement.
Anyway, enough talking for now. Here's some pics to mark my six-month halfway point. :)
Here's a pic of the curl and unevenness my bangs have been having....
And here's how they look after letting the hair dry while combed straight back....
And a couple more pics....
Nice work. You are making progress.
How short was your hair to begin with, and what is your goal length?
- Chris PhoeniX -
Thanks. I'm not sure exactly how short it was after my last cut. I'm a little over 4-1/2" inches right now, so after doing some math I figured I was around 2 inches back in October. I think I've grown roughly 1/2" a month.
My goal is at least shoulder-length. While I admire everyone's patience and desire to grow to mid-back and waist-length, that's just not for me. Just a nice shoulder-length is about as long as I want. I know it'll depend on what my hair's like as it grows out, but either of these lengths/styles I'd be fine with. :)
Congrats on making it to six months! I remember how happy I was to get that far. I try the same trick with the bangs, but mine still get a fairly good wave in them as they dry. I looked back at my six month pictures and they seemed to respond better then. Now I've been trying a bandana around my head sometimes while my hair is still damp (slicked back too), and that seems to help a bit. Might be something to try in the future.
It looks like your hair is starting to settling in to a center-part too. Very nice.
So, are you pulling your bangs towards your ears yet and trying to calculate how many months it will take to tuck them back? ;-)
Keep it growing!

Thanks, Mouse. I've worn my hair parted in the center before, even while it was shorter, so it wasn't too much of a change.
When I pull my bangs straight down, I can get them to touch the tip of my nose. I'm at about 4-1/2" right now. I calculated that I've grown about 1/2" a month since October, so I estimate I should be around 8" by the time this October rolls around.
I was told that once the hair grows in from being short, additional length is kind of hard to spot for awhile, and the hair seems like it's not doing anything until one morning you wake up and realize, "Hey, I guess it is actually growing." I'm hoping I get to that point soon. :) The hair around my ears is the biggest pain right now. When I wear my hat, I still have to tuck it back because it's not long enough to just hang down over my ears, but it's long enough that it sticks over the top of them and wants to flip up like little wings. Haha!!
Hopefully that will take care of itself in time...
Hey, I looked at your response below with the pictures of how long you want it to be. I think that would be a good look for you, and the nice thing is that you could always go longer from there without going through the same problems you're experiencing now.
Good luck!

Congratulations, Michael!
Your hair is doing great, congratulations on making it to the 6 month mark! You have done very well indeed in solving the problem with your bangs. Your hair will look awesome with the added length that the next 6 months will bring. Your beard is looking superb as well. I hope you give serious thought to growing your hair super long, any goal in mind?
All the best,
David
Thanks, David. I'm not planning to grow a beard, actually. I'm simply lazy about shaving. Haha!! I've been keeping the Van Dyke on my chin and around my mouth (which I usually have off and on throughout the year), but the rest of my facial hair grows in very patchy, so I usually shave before it gets too noticable.
Oh, and see my reply to PhoeniXCE just below this one for my length goal. :)
Very nice! I´m about to hit my 6 month mark too. You have some great waves in your hair, that´ll look awesome when it gets long!
Keep it growing! :)
Hi Michael, concrats on reaching the 6 months, i to am at the six month stage, from a skinhead, so it is not as long as yours.I will be posting a update in next week or so, and yes i agree it is exciting seeing new changes in your look, just by having a bit more hair..All the best, Jonny H. uk
