Don't worry - I'm not about to cannon-bomb off the long-hair cliff myself into the short-haired sea. ;)
No, it's just that it seems to be generally perceived that, as long hairs, we're supposed to hate short hair with a passion, yet I find that some people with short hair (mainly skinheads) can look pretty good.
Even though a skinhead (buzzcut) is the complete opposite of long hair, I still think that it's a good look for some people, who can carry it off well, and would even prefer that look if they grew their hair long and they looked worse than before. Of course, there are some people who just look horrendous with no hair.
I think it might be down to the fact that, like long hair, it's an easy style to maintain (when you consider that you can tie long hair back.) Plus it's clean. What I don't like is the short, gelled look. Not only does it look greasy, but you could spend hours trying to perfect it, and it still ends up looking rubbish.
Any thoughts?
I can't stand the buzzed look personally, but I don't particularly dislike ordinary short hair (an inch or longer) on other people. A couple of times I even dated girls with short hair. That isn't to say I don't prefer it longer, though.
In a perfect world I suppose I ought to be neutral about shaved heads, but I'm not. Some people look OK like that, but many more don't. Of course, I know there are people out there who feel that way about long hair too. Reasonable people can have differing opinions.
Being someone has had short hair pretty much my entire life, I really don't see the need for longhairs to hate them the way some do. Perhaps it's blasphemus to say on this board, but long hair is not for everyone, IMO. Some people look great with long hair, and some people look great with short hair. Heck, even I'm worried that after all the time I spend growing it out, I'll end up realizing I just don't look good with long hair and have to go back to keeping it short.
And I personally like the gelled hair, myself being a previous user. It doesn't take very long to do, especially if you have a short cut. You just put some on, run your hands through your hair a few times, and you're off and out the door. It's usually the people with slightly longer hair that try to make it neat and spiffy that end up looking like crap. But very short hair and a small amount of gel can look very nice.
I don't believe this to be a fair or accurate statement.
There is a definite distinction between having a true affinity for long hair and having a dislike for short hair.
Just because I think you would look better with long hair does not mean that I dislike your short hair. It means my preference is long hair. Period.
I have no problems for those with short hair. I have been there for many years. My 17 year old son has a buzz cut. It is his decision. I respect that.
What I dislike is the attitude that some who have never experienced long hair have towards those who do. To experience something and decide on a different path is a decision that few on here would argue with. It has been proven over and over in many threads. But to be typecast by those who have never shared the experience is another thing entirely.
Just wanted to clarify.

Well, I think that it´s up to each and every one of us to choose how we want our own hair. Sure, you can have oppinions on other peoples hair, but at the same time you have to respect peoples choices. With respect, I mean not saying bad things or talking behind peoples back. Of course, some styles suit certain people better than others. Purely because of facial structure.
I guess some longhaired men grow a hatred towards shorthaired people because of bullying and such.
I happen to like both long hair and shaved heads on other guys.
what I do not like is when one or the other does not show respect for the others choice of hair style.
also I do not belive in forcing my choice on other people
the way I look at it if a guy wants his hair long or
wants to shave it all off it is his hair and should be
able to do with it what he wants.
as far as caring for it long hair or shaved head both take work caring for, long hair you do have to shampoo, condition brush/comb
and what ever else needs to be done.
a shaved head you need to shave at least every day,use
lotion,sun screen etc.
but the biggest thing is everybody should respect how
others chose to wear there hair
I'm not worried in the slighest.
JUST WAIT right there! Where in the world did you EVER come up with such a statement? I have NEVER heard of downright "hatred" of shorter hair on this board nor of anything having to do with "we're suppose to hate short hair with a passion." What I HAVE HEARD is that the most important thing is inward happiness having to do with being a longhaired man. And the same for those that prefer short hair.......inward happiness of self expression is the most important of all. Sometimes a guy growing his hair out on this Hyperboard decides on his own that long hair is not for him and has it cut. However the responses to his decision are NOT HATRED!
Did you ever stop to think about the following(using your own words): "there are some people who just look horrendous with no hair." I certainly would think it a shame someday if you were to go bald,or have your hair fall out because of severe illness because under "your definition," that would mean that you looked "horrendous" for something that wasn't even your own fault.
Does that mean something else is dirty??????????????
If you say so.

Well, the only time i truly hate short hair is when it is forced upon MYSELF, --- which is exactly what I did experience as a kid, due to a militaristic father who viewed all males as "needing" to look that way.
Occasionally I come across a young guy with a buzz or military cut who views the world in the same narrow-minded way as my father did. A short hair-style on someone else, in and of itself, usually never bothers me; but whenever i pick up on any of that "attitude" that comes along with it, THEN i do indeed react (hating their haircut as much as their "better-than-thou" negativity towards me).
One summer Christopher, a very close friend of mine, wanted me to buzz his hair off. We were on a mini-vacation together with another friend, and his request was simply a whimsical and seasonal-related decision. At first I couldn't do it; but because I love him very dearly as a friend, I complied. This was HIS request, --- it made HIM happy (and so there was no reason I shouldn't be happy for him, too)! And, I even thought the buzzcut looked GREAT on him afterwards!! But, this harmony is all due to the fact that we both have a very "live and let live" attitude about life, as well as each other's preferences. He respects my desire for having my own hair long, as much as I respect his wishes for his hair being short. As long as there's that mutual respect, there's no reason in the world for me to "hate" anyone elses' short hair, --- in fact, I often find I like it on them, too!!

Im kinda surprised after reading this especially when you mentioned that you like to see the Skinhead look on others wow some transfermation from like yours long to saying Skinhead looks on others looks good even if they grow it out long to I can put my hand up and say Ive never had a Skinhead or Buzzcut as such, which brings me to Jason who as probably had ever short haircut you could mention & probably every long hairstyle now ! So which looks best on him !
