Okay so ive decided to go for really long hair, well past my shoulders. The only problem is i has the stupid idea of cutting the back extremely short a good while ago so now...my back is about at the base of my neck with everything in the front of my face + sides well past my chin but not at my chest or shoulders yet. Will simply letting it grow (the back and front) will it ever even out? or will i be forced to drastically cut the front?

Just let it grow out. It isn't as bad as having short hair on the front and long hair on the back, hence a mullet. You can eventually pull your bangs back into a ponytail, and let the back grow into it.
It will be all worth it! And don't worry about the back. It sounds way too short but later you can trim the front, not drastically, just a bit! After all it needs a lot more to get to your shoulders.
