I hope to be in the SF bay area by the evening of the 19th, and I will have about a week after that before I have to start work. For reasons of privacy I'd prefer not to go into too much detail, but I will be living and working on the peninsula. If anybody in that area would like to hang out during that week, feel free to contact me via e-mail. I'm happy to give out more details via e-mail to people I know and trust from here.
I'll be pulling out of DC Saturday--I might be able to get together with DC people from here tomorrow still. I know that's short notice, and if you can't get together that's OK. There's still a lot to do getting ready for this move.
Access to to anything on the internet will most likely be subject to whatever free wi-fi I can grab for the next week.
Congratulations on the move and job, Steve NoCA! Other than an ice cream date with former students Thursday evening I'm game for a DC area meet if possible. I hear there are two birthdays to celebrate. Next week I beat you to CA by a day so could see you there too.
Elizabeth
Thanks, haha--thought NoCA was a typo then I realized. I'll probably just keep the old handle. Friday is full up, then hopefully I'm gone.
Its always nice to know that another long hair is moving to
California. I really hope you like it here and things work out
as you want them too.
Welcome from a native northern Californian.
Congrats on officially moving out West!!!
Moving is so stressful. Glad to hear you have a week to settle into your new home; but even a week is never enough, when it comes to a big move like that!
I imagine we'll meet each other at some point, --- and when that time comes, it will be great to meet you! If I were in your shoes, though, I wouldn't rush to make any big social plans until after all the dust settles. I've moved X-country more than once (when I was in my 20s & 30s). Thankfully, my last big move (from NYC to SF) was way back in '87. Damn near killed me!
Take care, --- and take it easy on your trip out here... and enjoy the scenery!
- Ken
Thanks
Yeah, I'm really feeling it as the days count down. It's true--you never realize how much stuff you've got until you move it.
Yep, I think I may be swamped with relocation chores even before I start work. Finding a longer term apartment will be the first big concern once I'm out there. It won't be as bad as it was when I moved from NoVA to DC though--I was under a lot more stress then even though the move was just local.
I'm zipping across PDQ, but I suppose I should try to stop and smell the roses at lease once. I'm going the southern route--I-40 and stuff to avoid the possibility of a snow blast on the plains or in those mountain areas. I drive about as well on snow as anybody else from DC, and if you know what happens in DC when it snows, you know I shouldn't be near the stuff if I can avoid it.
Welcome to California! I live in SF Bay Area [San Jose] and would like to meet up with you and other MLHH members sometime in the near future. I'm on vacation April 12-29 [taking a cruise to Europe and hope to meet up with John B. for a bit] and won't be able to hang out during your off week. I'll let you know what's up when I get back...
Keep it growin'!

I'm out of town (hiking with longhairs), I'll be back Sunday the 22nd, but will be working Sun-Wed.
Hey, Steve. I just want to wish you the best of luck. I'm still envious of that hair. Keep it growin' and flowin'. TLH
That is cool Steve. The Bay Area is a very geographically diverse place. I think you will love it here, and fit right in. This is one of the most longhair friendly places in the country. Hopefully I will get to meet you at our next Bay Area longhair get together, if not sooner. May you have an easy and low stress move.
Best wishes.
Absalom
Right on, man...California can make your dreams come true and I wish you success. WELCOME to the West Coast!
