Hey guys! I recently found this song, which belong to a musical called "hair", that seems to document the vietnam war, as for what I realised...
I really think that we should use this as the hyperboard hymn, so I am suggesting that we use it, as for uploading the lyrics on a page or so... I really believe this song a lot of how most of us feel, and I eentually get emocional as I hear it... It's beautyfull =) =) =)
Here are the lyrics:
She asks me why
I'm just a hairy guy
I'm hairy noon and night
Hair that's a fright
I'm hairy high and low
Don't ask me why
Don't know
It's not for lack of break
Like the Grateful Dead
Darling
Gimme head with hair
Long beautiful hair
Shining, gleaming,
Streaming, flaxen, waxen
Give me down to there hair
Shoulder length or longer
Here baby, there mama
Everywhere daddy daddy
Hair, hair, hair, hair, hair, hair, hair
Flow it, show it
Long as God can grow it
My hair
Let it fly in the breeze
And get caught in the trees
Give a home to the fleas in my hair
A home for fleas
A hive for bees
A nest for birds
There ain't no words
For the beauty, the splendor, the wonder
Of my...
Hair, hair, hair, hair, hair, hair, hair
Flow it, show it
Long as God can grow it
My hair
I want it long, straight, curly, fuzzy
Snaggy, shaggy, ratty, matty
Oily, greasy, fleecy
Shining, gleaming, streaming
Flaxen, waxen
Knotted, polka-dotted
Twisted, beaded, braided
Powdered, flowered, and confettied
Bangled, tangled, spangled, and spaghettied!
Oh say can you see
My eyes if you can
Then my hair's too short
Down to here
Down to there
Down to where
It stops by itself
They'll be ga ga at the go go
When they see me in my toga
My toga made of blond
Brilliantined
Biblical hair
My hair like Jesus wore it
Hallelujah I adore it
Hallelujah Mary loved her son
Why don't my mother love me?
Hair, hair, hair, hair, hair, hair, hair
Flow it, show it
Long as God can grow it
My hair, hair, hair, hair, hair, hair, hair
Flow it, show it
Long as God can grow it
My hair
This is really the song of all long haired guy... You can see musical scene here:
How brilliant is that? =D
I know! I love the musical. "Hair" is an amazing inspiration of people doing what they want and this is worthy for a hymn :)
Hey,
yea, that song is great. I love the Musical "hair" and all the music in it. It's one of my favorite movies ;)
Hippies 4 ever :D
You and a couple other guys have some fantastic hair. don't let anyone bully you into cutting it.
As for the hymn I'm not one to judge since I'm not into poetry or hymns, sonnets etc.
Hey man: I remember the year that musical came out. In fact, I think I had the "album" (anyone remember those?). What we need is a REVIVAL; people dancing in the street and making daisy chains in the park. Keep it Flaxin/Waxin - Bruce'ster
I, being a member of the "Old Farts Club", remember when the musical first hit the stage. I thought then that it was a great symbol of the times, and I think that now.
"Flow it, show it
Long as God can grow it"

I most certainly remember it, too! I was in college then. One line my memory tells me was misquoted:
It's not for lack of break
Like the Grateful Dead
I recall it being BREAD, not BREAK. "Bread" rhymes with dead, and it also makes sense, since "bread" is freakspeak for "money".
Bill
You maybe right, Metrolyrics.com shows it as BREAD not Break, But BREAK is also shown at other sites. I think my wife has the original sheet music in storage. Maybe I'll climb in there to find it.

Bill
.... I enjoyed your latest update Bill! Good looking beard!
Bruce
Woah! The lyrics are amazing. I love it!
I especially like this part :
My hair like Jesus wore it
Hallelujah I adore it
Hallelujah Mary loved her son
Why don't my mother love me?
LOL....Priceless
The Youtube scene is from the movie available here: http://www.amazon.com/Hair-John-Savage/dp/0792841638/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/104-9068158-7128766?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1176420041&sr=8-1
If you haven't seen it, it's a MUST buy! It's a well done version of the Broadway play, bringing to life the late 60's hippie/drug/anti-war lifestyle.
The picture is me with one of my rockets just before flight. I've been lurking here for a few months, visiting occasionally.
Tom
I used to fly rockets in the states when I was there. I was certified by NAR for level 1 high power rockets. Too bad I can't fly anything in Taiwan cause no one flies rockets here. What level are you? that looks like a level 2 bird.
If they ever let me back in the US I will get certified again... its no big deal, assuming the ATFE dont complicate things...
I can remember when this hit the radio; it was from the musical. What wonderful memories.
Another "Old Fart's Club" proud member here!
Here is a link to the Cowsills version, which is probably the most popular version.

Now that brings back memories.........
Big George,
A native NC and living here again, I lived in NYC for 31 years and saw the original production of HAIR, an indeed happy event.
I have always found the name COWSILLS strange, but I am very .greatful for your posting their version of this wonderful song, and J. David for posting the text.

The Cowsills are a family, brothers and sisters.
The Cowsills are a family, brothers and sisters.
Oh, i bet i know what the song is that's being discussed. All I needed was to see the Cowsills mentioned. that was back when my family had a black and white tv set.
Now there is a blast from the past.
I have that song, Hair in MP3 and saw the film version of the musical in late 1979.
We could have it as a hymn for the International Fraternity of Longhairs, which members would sing at long hair gatherings like the communists sing The Internationale.
On the other hand, I once wrote a parody of Englebert Humperdink's song, There Goes My Only Possession, which went somewhat like this:-
Hair is My Only Obsession, Hair is My Everything.
