Does anybody here use straighteners? I do, I normally only straighten the flippy out back and the fringe which tends to curl out on one side. I'm at 8 and a half months growth atm, so pretty much a lot of hair. I use Tresemme Heat Defence spray on my hair before straightening.
Does anyone else use straighteners? If so, how often? Do you think these damage your hair with regular use?
I don't but I thought of doing it at that phase using that heat defence lark. But I still think it will cause damage and you'll end up regretting it in the long run.
It's true it can cause damage but there's nothing wrong with using it. Make sure you condition regularly. If you LIKE your hair better straight go for it!
In the past I've used heat appliances, and believe me, no matter what type of pre-heat product you use, you will damage your hair. If you want healthy long hair, don't even think about straightening it.
Hi. I bought myself a really good flat iron. I have used it a total of 3 times and it dries my hair out a LOT!. I only use it on very special occasions and condition my hair obsessively for the next few days. It does cause damage... If you flat iron, do it on dry hair with ceramic plates - reduces damage but does not stop it.
Hey.
There is nothing wrong with using straighteners.
With inproper or overuse they can damage your hair(Like anything) So use them properly and you should be fine.
A good thing to get is serum to put on your hair after, to keep it sleek and shiny and also in good condition.
DaPs.
Hi there,
My advice is to avoid straightening your hair if at all possible. I fell into the straightening iron trap for over a year and it caused so much damage that I actually felt my hair had stopped growing for a time. Why not let your hair grow naturally, it is all too easy to want something that we don't have, but if you want healthy, really long hair, my advice is to let nature do its thing. Don't forget that you are going through the "awkward stage" right now, that is one of the barriers all of us have to get through to achieve long hair. As your hair gets longer, gravity will take over and your hair will weigh itself down better.
Hope this helps,
David
Friends,
Paradox -- an apparent contridiction. Because of gender taboos men are reluctant to use rollers, but it is the only way to straighten hair that is not damaging. Avoid velcro, but brush rollers are ok, better are completely smooth ones. If you do not know how to buy them or use them, ask a trusted woman friend. Most women I know like to help a man do it -- at least till he learns. I do not think I could have succeeded in growing my hair without this trick. Hair will dry naturally in aboout two hours even in our humid climate, faster under a fan, or on a breezy deck. A hood drier or a hand drier can be used, but better natural drying.
Kyle -- Hair has no gender. You can do anything with it you want. I tend to be an understated fellow, but am disappointed at how rarely anyone comments about my hair, even though I use a variety of ways of fastening it at the back, including silver barettes, occasional pins with a semi-precious jewel, etc. I am masculine, but want to push the envelope. This is the only way we men will ever have hair freedom.
Jonny H -- I hope you are beginning to experience the pleasure of being a long hair, and that you will never go back.
