I was holding my budgie earlier and it took a bite at my fringe. I think I am going to stay away from birds.... lol
a bite from a budgie could not break hair.
Oh. My appolgies then. I assumed that you would see the humour... Or maybe you are a Budgie expert and I offended you?
A friend's dog likes to paw at people's faces when they are sitting on the couch. I have to keep him from doing it, because his claws get caught in my beard, and it HURTS!

My older brother once had some budgies, but more than hair biting I'd fear their really frequent rate of defecation. Fortunately, once he left the cage outside during the night and something ate them, probably a marten :)
I can imagine that the ara parrots or such bigger kinds can be dangerous to the thicker strands of braids, when they can bite off a finger.
I forgot to mention this....
Twice in my life I've had birds swoop down and pluck a hair from my head for nest-building material. Both times this happened in the spring.
One Indian guy from Arizona once posted on here that he found a lot of his shed strands in bird nests in his yard. Thereafter, he would always set his sheddings outside for birds to use.
Even our long hair is part of nature's scheme of species counting on each other!

Whether or not it's an old wives' tale, I know not, but I've always heard that long, shed hair shouldn't be thrown out for the birds as it's more a bane than boon for they tend to become tangled in the longer hair and problems result for them then.
Hair and nail clippings can be used for ill-intent if they get into the wrong hands - so I was always told.
The implecation was of black magic, but perhaps the real danger comes from dust mites. I'm only just beginning to realise the perils of neglect. I thought I had a healthy disregard of dust, but now find it can be harmful if left unchecked too many years.
Well anyway, the habit I had was to collect together bundles of fallen hair, nail clippings, putting them out with the vegetable peelings, but the past few months I decided to leave them out for the birds - sometimes having the joy of seeing them make off with the stuff.
Maybe I'll reconsider this, if it can cause tangles for them.
cheers.
