I spent last summer growing out my hair. I didn't cut it for almost 8 months. It was very wavy and it curled all over the place. Finally in September I decided to cut it and haven't had longer hair since. My quetion is does brushing it when it is short help keep it straighter? I only cut my hair every 2-2 1/2 months so when it starts growing back my hair doesn't curl so much. I'm thinking of letting it grow again so any advice or experiences you guys have on grooming hair would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Mike
No. Hair is either curly, wavey, or strait by nature of your genetics. To a certain degree, though, if you brush your hair a long time (as I sometimes do, in order to help stimulate circulation in my scalp, and also help distribute the natural oils down the hair shaft), the degree of waviness might straiten out a little; but this is only temporary (at least this is what happens with my hair, which is normally wavey).
Mike, you'll find that as you grow your hair out again, the same amount of curliness will eventually return (unless you resort to straiteners, --- which most of us here do NOT recommend). The long hair phase you described at the point at which you cut your hair short is often described as, "the awkward phase" (and for good reason - lol). This topic comes up frequently here, so just stay tuned... Also, rest assured that the many who have successfully "graduated" past this famous awkward phase usually find that as the hair gets longer, the weight of the hair itself helps to straighten the crazy curls out (depenmding on the degree of curliness).
Just "stay tuned", and you'll learn a lot here!
