Hello, I have long hair in the awkward stage. I know I saw messages of straightening irons before, but whats the opinion on them, good bad, what brand, type etc?

Bill,
Last month, I went to the salon. I got my hair treated and after the treatment, they applied straightening iron on me. I can tell you that I simply love it! My hair was stick straight and soft flowing, like a beautiful lady on a shampoo commercial ;)
But one side effect is the hair gets quite dry after ironing and thus, you will need a moisturing shampoo to restore its moisture.
Still, I feel it has more pros than cons :) Try it, you should love it if you love straight, beautiful hair on yourself.
I just went to a salon for a haircut. And after the stylist dried my hair, she applied a flat iron to my hair and sprayed some of those heat styling spray to preven tmy hair from getting too dry. Loved it! It was so straight and shiny and I wanted to get a flat iron right away. But the one they had at the salon was a bit expensive--it costs over $100. But you should definitely try it.

I can't live without mine!!
The best ones i have tried have been from salons, they are proffessional and do the job. It is worth investing in a good pair of irons which will last you YEARS!!! Watch out though they get very hot and watch the carpet!!!
I've tried babyliss, straight and shine, but find that they do not work well on thick, or coarse hair! Flat irons are the best, they keep the hair straighter for longer!
have fun
