I got the "If your cut your hair, your wouldn't notice the gray" comment from my wife tonight. I just smiled and said that I'm not bothered by gray hair. She generally quitely supportive now about the whole long hair thing, but every once in a while she'll drop some sort of hint about cutting or ask if its' time that I could cut.
Don't worry, no cutting!
Bruce
Show her a pic of my grey hair and tell her thats what your going for. LoL
Great, Bruce!
SO glad you stood your ground, keep that mane growin' and flowin'! It would be MOST interesting to see how your wife reacts if and when you decide to grow it to your WAIST(have you given any thought to that?), perhaps she will be so impressed that she will stop pestering you! I see next to no gray in your hair anyway, still looks mostly red to me.
And I do hope you post that update soon, waiting for it,
David
I think the gray comment was only a ploy to cut, not that I don't realise I have gray hair. I'm not sure about waist length, maybe mid-back. Who knows I might change my mind by then and go for broke! Update in a few weeks. (OMG I'm at 18 Months!!)

Hi Bruce, I always get the same comments from my wife but they go in one ear and out the other... Lol..
One question though, have you noticed the hair being thinner in the gray areas? Mine seems to thin out in the gray patches.
Chris K
I don't think it's thinner where there is gray. I have sporadic gray hair all over. I do have thinning at my crown, but I don't think it's related to the gray.
Bruce
Thanks, may be it is just me, I am getting thinner in a couple of my gray patches. I still have not tried the "just for men" stuff yet... Graying only bothers my wife and well I just don't care anyways... Ha, Haa..
Chris K
Hi Chris,
Sorry to interrupt your discussion with Bruce, but I notice your comment wondering if hair appears thinner in the gray areas. One thing I DO notice is that my gray hairs seem to be finer and thinner looking than my brown hair, somehow the brown hairs almost appear "stronger" looking. I also have some thinning in the crown.
David
Hey David,
Thanks for the interruption.... :) I thought that the gray parts were getting thinner, and the gray strands seem thinner to me also. It just proves to me that I am NOT going mad... :)
Chris K
As I've gained gray, I've found my gray hairs are more coarse than the darker strands they replaced, and this gives one a sense that my hair is now "thicker". My scalp shows through a bit more in the grayest areas, but that is because the color is lighter, not because there are less strands of hair.
My gray hairs are also much straighter.
This is definitely an area where YMMV. Will your hair be different when it comes in gray? Probably. Will it be like somebody else's who you've talked to? Probably not.
Even my mane and beard have each reacted differently to the situation known as "graying".
Bill
I have waist length hair and alot of gray but i've noticed
absolutely no thinning. I'm probably older than most here...
53 years old.
Hi Nick,
That's great news! The thinning in my case is probably related to the fact that I have some early signs of MPB. You are obviously one of those who are blessed to never have to worry about hair loss in any shape or form, that's why you don't notice any thinner strands. Perhaps you could share some pics of that waist length mane with the guys here, that would be cool!
David
Tell her you don't want to get in the habit of putting things that grow old out to pasture.
Bill
Sorry to hear of this, but if you have gotten this far and still haven't cut, probably every once in a while you will hear her say the same again.
Funny, but in my own case (when I fell for a buzz cut) suddenly to my astonishment there was quite alot of grey to be seen. Now that it is long again (at this point the longest its ever been in my entire life) the gray is somehow masked and doesn't really show up at all.
With you seeing some gray and having long hair, if you were to have it cut short you might suddenly see almost all gray.
I think some gray hair is not a problem. On some people, scattered gray hairs makes the hair look good. Call them "natural highlights" if you wish. Just don't cut your hair when you'll end up with short gray hairs anyway.
Anyway, I feel your pain as well. I have scattered gray hairs; I'm 21. I'm preparing for a lifetime of loving the gray.
That's funny because in my case the gray was more noticeable when it was cut short. Another interesting thing for me is that when it is wet, it's almost black. Gets gray when it dries.
Whenever I get the gray hair comment I like to add in
"I get the gray hair from people like you telling me
I should cut my hair."
I like it long and i've earned every single gray hair
over the years.
No one ever comments to me on my having gray hair. I guess that would be dumb; it would be stating the obvious. I seldom get comments on my hair, either. What I get is "hippie" comments.
Funny how each of us gets a different set of comments.
Bill
Yeah my grays are coming in full bore and they don't bother me either. They're coming in in streaks so they look kind of cool.
