OK, so here goes. I started growing my hair out for the heck of it in about early December '06 because I had always had short hair and felt like a change. I am now planning to grow it until shoulder, or just over shoulder length and am now in a bit of an awkward stage. Being 17, I'm still at home and although my mom won't _force_ me to cut it, she wants something done, as it is not long enough to tuck behind my ears, but it comes down to just below my eyes (1/2 cm past pupils). I was just grinning and bearing it, but if there are any solutions, help would be appreciated (I keep sweeping it out of my eyes). Also, I'm kinda from a conservative background, so any ideas on styling for church when it gets longer?
Thanks,
-Christian Epp
Cool, welcome to the board!
Your mom will get used to it, and as for the church issue, tucking it behind your ears or putting it in a tail when it's longer should solve the problem.
Best of luck and keep it growing!

Gel is your friend. For church or formal occasions, simply take gel and slick front hair straight back or back at a slight angle (like the normal "business style" except more towards the back). Basically, the gel with either hold the hair in place back or otherwise cause much less flopping (my hair naturally fights gel and so gel just inhibits flopping). As for the back, just straight down, no gel. It works rather well for me, the hair sometimes goes sideways with the collar but on the whole it still looks nice. Basically, this "style" overall keeps the hair out of one's eyes and keeps the back of the hair blend in the crowd. A picture of me sporting this 'do is included.
I've tried it and it seems to work nicely, thanks. You seem to have hair very similar to mine so I am very greatful for your response. Thank you all!
Re-thanks,
