hey man, im in a dilema. I have wavyish/ curly hair, for example if I comb it while it is dry it does a weird wave and does not cooperate. I am really interested in growing my hair the way John mayer has it, if you guys know. The strands of hair in front of my ear just reach the top of my ear. Im guessing I have about 5 inches. The hair above my forhead does not cooperate and feels little bushy. I trimmed my hair 2 months ago to even it out. I don't like my afro kinda look, I want it to grow straight down rather than grow OUT and up... any help. I wash my hair and condition and shampoo every day. Should i air dry, towel dry... Do you have any tips, everyone is tellnig me to cut it and I don't know what to do.
Sorry to have to tell this to you, Abe, but you may need to get patient with yourself. If your hair is as curly as mine (and your earlier posts suggest it is so), then you'll have to wait a bit before it starts to come down, given that it is just reaching your ears. Curly hair has to actually be about twice as long as you want it to look to accomodate for the curls. Once it gets long enough to put into a tail, though, you can fake it a bit more by letting it dry in a tail, then takin git our and slightly dampening it to again style ie; it will have been partly straightened by the drying process but without chemicals or heat.
I have reached a year of growing just this week and it is starting to feel long, but I still have a ways to go.
Condition, condition, condition.
I recommend the 'Got2Be' line, particularly the 'höttie' line for managine frizz and keeping it manageable.
You've got my mySpace as well as email ability through this board. You can ask for any advice beyond this and I'll respond, I just don't have the time right now to post on the board as often as I'd like.
Ciao!

Try these tips...
1) Don't comb or brush it when dry; this just makes for a mess with curly hair.
2) Don't cut it; grow it twice as long and you'll find it lays down a lot more, probably like you want.
3) Unless you are John Mayer, your hair won't look like his, but maybe you can approximate it.
4) Try washing every other day; too frequent washing can cause the dryness and poofiness.
5) Try some gel or leave-in conditioner applied to your hair when it's still wet. Work it in, shake your head around, and don't touch it till dry.
6) Curly hair will grow out before it grows down; this is the test of your patience. Give it some more time, or refer back to #5.
Good luck! Bragi
Hi. I have the same problem. There are a couple of things you can do (besides just waitng until it is heavy enough to hang).
1. Don't wash and condition everyday. Do it three times a week (4 if you have oily hair)
2. Always air-dry
3. Don't comb or brush. After a while you will get used to it. Helps stop the frizz.
4. Use leave in conditioner. Helps to control curls. I have a straightening gel that works nicely but it dries my hair out.
Didnt see the last post. Sorry. *blush*
Hey, most important points have been mentioned but I just want to add my experience in growing my hair. My hair is very curly and it doesn't always cooperate very well, even after >2 years of growth. You're going to have to live with it. I have gotten a lot of compliments about my (for them) long curls, even at moments when I thought it looked really messy. But that's just what you get with curly hair: It has a wilder look than straight hair. Even though it's "tough hair", I wouldn't trade my curls for straight hair. :)
When growing my hair out, it just went out in the beginning. I greased it down until it was long enough to wear in a ponytail. Brush your hair, combing won't do you any good (unless it has very wide teeth). And when you brush it, make sure your hair is wet. It gets all poofy and ugly when I brush it when it's wet. I use warm (not hot) water to make my hair wet before I brush it.
Patience is the key! :)
