After how many years does hair stop growing?
Longhaired salutations Tom,
Although it is a common misconception that hair
(and nails) continue to grow posthumously, that's
only due to the recession around the hair follicles
and nail bed (cuticles) after death. SO . . .
Considering an individual's genetic lineage as well as their
hormonal output, too, hair doesn't ever stop growing
until one dies. How's THAT for "terminal length" ? Mine
happens to grow three times faster than is deemed average,
for reasons you may have already gleaned from here before.

It varies from person to person. Read Bill Choisser's, "FAQ: On Being A Longhair", --- it explains in detail how hair grows & then sheds. Most guys get at least 6 years of growth out of their mane. I'm just about into my 7th year now, and I can tell the growth rate is slowing down quite a bit; but hopefully it will continue just a little longer!

Hair in a given place on the body has a certain lifespan. The reason your eyebrows never get more than about an inch long is that human hair grows half an inch a month and those hairs only live for two months.
Hair on top of your head can live for a few years, so most people can expect their longest strands to be somewhere between 1-1/2 to 3 feet. Young guys tend to be at the top end of that range and older guys at the bottom.
All of your hairs in an area don't get born at the same time and then get shed at the same time like some dogs' fur does. Humans will have strands of all different ages, just like the population of a town will have people of all different ages. This means you will have some old hairs (long ones) and some young hairs (short ones) everyplace, all mixed together. You'll know when you're approaching terminal length, because like my old aunt said, "It's a pain getting old because all of my friends have died." When your oldest strands don't have many friends, you're near terminal.

Hi Tom, don't worry, your hair is far from terminal length. Your hair is at mid back length and appears thick right to the ends. As terminal length is approached, the hair gets thin at the very ends.
Head hair has a growth cycle usually between 3 and 6 years. Mine is probably about 7 years. Unless you are exceptionally tall, you should be able to grow it at least to your waist. Bear in mind that the taller you are the longer it has to be to reach your waist.

Thanks for that, i'm not so tall about 5 foot 9ish. I guess I'm only a few years away from waist length
