Hi everyone,
A recent post by Absalom indicating that someone's height could be estimated from facial structure, etc. is one of the reasons I thought it would be cool to know how tall everyone is. (I think this was asked about 6 months back but a refresher could always come in handy) A fellow member once over estimated my height a few months back, thinking I was over 6', when in reality, I am only a bit over 5'9". I like to think of being "just short of 5'10", lol! We have some VERY tall guys here, e.g. James Raymond and Gylfi, and some not so tall, I could never come close to estimating their height from their avatar pictures.
David
I don't have an avatar picture, but I'm 6'1"ish, probably 6'2" now since I've not measured in ages.
6' 2" or ~190 cm.
I'm about 5'9" so i am not very tall
There is one positive thing about not being so tall:your hair dont take forever to grow to your goal=)
a.
I am 6'1. Ten million strong, and growing.
Hello,
i dont know what is your measure system, foots ?
in meters i'm 1,81 metters tall :D
cya
My hair Journal (that is going to be updated soon ^^)
That makes you a bit over 5 feet 9 inches.. :)
In stating heights, English is quirky. We'd say:
Five foot eight
Five foot nine and a half
Five foot nine and three quarters
Five foot ten
Five foot eleven
Six feet
Six foot one
Etc.
Strangest is why we say "foot" instead of "feet" if the "foot" measurement is followed with a number for "inches".
On the other hand, we'd say, "I'm five feet, eleven inches tall." But if we shortened that, we'd say, "I'm five foot eleven."
And don't tell people you're six feet "long"! That is something else! In English we say "tall" for height.
Bill
Note that around the six foot height....
Five foot eleven
Five foot eleven and a quarter
Five foot eleven and a half
Five foot eleven and three quarters
Six feet
Six feet and a quarter of an inch
Six feet and half an inch
Six feet and three quarters of an inch
Six foot one
Six foot one and a quarter
Six foot one and a half
Six foot one and three quarters
Six foot two
Bill
That is approximately 5'10"
Your right, the conversion I used said 5.938 I misread that as 5 feet 9 inches so ineed 6 feet
thanks Kevin
David, you make me out to sound like a gargantuan. I'm not that big... only 6'8" (203cm). ;)
ONLY 6'8"!!! Wow, I had actually thought you were 6'6", I blew that one, lol! I know you play golf as well, it would be cool to know what clubs (extra long driver?) you use and how far you hit a golf ball . (I remember Michael Jordan likes to take in a little golf as well, I have seen him play in Pro Ams on TV)
David
Yeah, my father (who I'm sure is out playing today) is having my clubs extended to fit my height a little better. Unfortunately, it still doesn't help much with my game, lol. =)
5'2" That just might make me the smallest member of the board. :-)
Hi! I'm 6 feet tall and find it hard to believe that anyones height could be predicted by facial structure. I would be interested in knowing the method and characteristics Absalom uses to make this prediction or is it an old family secret that can never be revealed.
Del
Hi DavidN, I'm 5'9". Seems to be the average height so far. peace, jonalbear
For years I was about 5'11-3/4", so I'd say "six feet". Now like most guys my age I've shrunk a little, and I'm 5'11-1/4", so I say "five eleven". But that sounds like I lost a foot; I really haven't even lost an inch. This stuff all calcs out to around 1 meter 81-1/2 centimeters, for the metric crowd.
I have a short neck and a long torso, which means getting shoulder length was a shorter than average journey, but waist length was further off than it would otherwise be. In the past few years I've had three strands reach my waist, but at the moment none do. My mane starts to thin out really major just below shoulderblade length. My longest comb-out has been 22-7/8", which is 58 centimeters.
Bill
Cool pics there, Bill!
I can't wait until the spring of 2009 (I must not wish my life away, lol!), the year I plan to meet up with you guys. I am right around Scott's height, hopefully we can get a huge group pic of you, Steve, Ken, Rick, Scott, Trolleypup, and myself at that time, hope I'm not the shortest, lol, seems as though there are lots of tall people in San Francisco. (forgive me if I've left anyone out of the proposed group pic!)
David
I don't know if we're taller than average, but what you will notice is a lot more thin people. Hills do that. And even the heavier guys you do see are mostly quite fit. Hills do that.
I am always amazed when I leave here, how many fat people there are.
Bill
I am certainly not overweight myself, thank goodness for that. I want to be able to enjoy a LOT of retirement years, after all and don't want TOO much on the waistline, lol! I am around 145 pounds or so, I walk regularly, but I don't think Halifax is as hilly as San Francisco, I just have to walk a little further to make up for the lack of hills!
David
When you arrive, know that we also have several city golf courses here, in case you find threading your way through the merchants of Chinatown or the hippies on Haight, hiking up mountains with scenic views, or strolling along wide sand beaches alongside crashing surf to be boring. [g]
Bill
Ahhh, Bill!
There is SO much to see and SO much to do. I definitely have to plan to have lots of time for my trip! I will have to throw the clubs in the back of the car just in case, but golf will probably be a bit of a lower priority for me at that time. The biggest thrill will be getting together with you guys for a while, and hopefully someone can show me a few of the sights your fair city has to offer. The only problem is, will I want to go back home, lol!
David
You couldn't see me because I am holding the camera as I take a length shot with the back of everybody. :-)
I just realized, given the number of us here in the Bay Area already at our maximum length you will be one of the few who will look different by about a foot in two years.
Elizabeth
The perspective in that pic makes me look taller than I actually am. I was measured at 6'1" when I stopped growing. The last time I was measured, they had me at 6'0" and I was like, "are you sure?". So, she re-did it and gave me some fraction of an inch, but not a solid 1. I don't know if the original measurement was too tall, or if sitting at the computers has given me bad posture.
OK, I really have to unplug this thing and check out now...
I come in at 5'9 about average.
Kevin
I'm 6'3, which means I got a pretty long way to go to get to mid back!
KEep it growing
-Mihnea
Last i checked around 5'10-ish, maybe a tad more? Pretty average i guess.
It'd be funny to have you guess, then I can tell later how tall I really am :P
Yeah, we should have Absalom guess the height of everyone in the users' directory before he reads this thread.
Bill
Hi Stefan,
AHHH, that's a tough one, let's play it safe and say a nice even 6', or around 180 cm. I am not good at guessing heights, I agree with Bill's comment about Absalom guessing everyone's height and then, and ONLY the, reading this thread!
David
Hi Stefan, your dreadlock photo at the lower left indicates a height of about 188cm or 6'2". I can usually get it very close with a photo that shows someone from head to toe and without a warped perspective. (No wide angle lenses and the photo taken from about shoulder height.)
Absalom
Wow...
5'7"
I've been 6'3" as long as I can remember, but my wife swears it's closer to 6'4".
5'8", or more like 5'7 5/8" really!!
I have short legs and a long torso, like having the top half of someone 6' attached to the bottom half of someone 5'4" !! This means my hair has to grow further.
Wow, I am just the opposite. I have the arms and legs of a 6 foot man but a short torso.
I have the top half of someone 5'6" tall and the bottom half of someone 6 feet tall. I am about mid point between those 2 values. I am just over 5'9" tall.
Absalom
And a looonnnggg torso.
At 46" long, my hair barely covers my butt. lol
Yeah. It's a Glamour Shot. lol
So much makeup, nobody ever'd recognize me in real life. LOL
6' tall and still holding.
Hi. I'm 172cm (1,72m)
Hey Waldheri, man,
What is UP, dude? Just asking. That is all. Well?
Thought I'd ask. Denali Inst. of Northern Traditions
helped me a lot. Ragnar Holm is rankingest!

hi David,
well,me thinks I'm between 5'11" and 6 ft even.the last time I measured myself was 2 years ago (when I was 21),and I was 5'11".I heard the body continues to grow even in your 20's,so I dunno...
5'10" barefoot......
6'1" now, probably have lost 1/4" to 1/2" over the years
5'10" and shrinking. LoL
When people I've gotten to know over the internet meet me for the first time in-person, the first thing they often say is, "WOW, you're a lot bigger guy than I thought you'd be!" Mind you, it's not my height that apparently surprises them, so I guess it's my width (lol).
My favorite story I love to tell about my size is when I did an improptu Swing dance performance with a favorite dance partner and good friend of mine who happens to be quite petite. We danced to Billy Joel's version of the Elvis song, "All Shook Up", --- recieving quite a long & loud applause from the audience afterwards. Then this guy rushes up to us, looks me dead in the eye, and say the following:
"You are the most graceful over-weight man I have ever seen!"
Not sure of how to respond to such an odd comment, I stammered out, "Ummmm... thanks, --- I think!"
- Ken
hahaha..
I laughed hard when I read this story the first time!! ^_^
all is not lost though..at least you can tell people that you are a "well-rounded" individual.
(lol!!just joking man)
You guys are making me feel short at 5'7" (170 cm). Well, I like my size....quicker to touch my toes with my hair....okay, maybe never that long.
I'm 6'8"--so if I were a foot shorter my hair would be waist length!!
It's funny; back home in the Caribbean, I was one of the shortest people in school, but here in Florida, I've found a number of people significantly shorter than me. I don't mind, though. I actually like being short; I think it adds to the longhaired image, at least for me. There ARE tall guys with awesome long hair; the Undertaker from the WWE is an example. But if one is short, it takes less time for one's hair to reach milestones. :D
Peace
I think I'm 6' even, but I might have lost a little in the past 30 years.
Bruce
how I determine height. I don't use facial features, although tall people often have long faces. I compare head size to body length and size. Heads come in a very narrow size range.
From a full length photo (shows person from head to toe) I can with reasonable accuracy determine their height. The photo must not be a wide angle shot and should be taken from about shoulder height. The photo should be taken from a good distance away (5 meters is good) to eliminate warped perspective. Warped perspective makes it difficult to accurately determine that person's height.
Finally I included a photo of myself. I know it shows 70 inches, (178cm) but I am wearing shoes. 69 1/4" (176cm) is about my actual height.
Absalom
Yo, Absalom bro,
As I shared in an earlier post, I adhered to a recommendation of yours, FROM A YEAR AGO, as to sheering a section of hair to determine the rapidity of hair growth by monitoring its reappearance. Well, I chose the point that faces in at the temples. Know what? It grew back an inch and a half in a month's time. So, where am I on the evolutionary scale? Does 5"10" really matter? Hey! Feature your pet serpents in a picture of you sometime, ay?

Does it matter David I'm 6 foot tall.
John.B
I am about 166 cm tall or around 5 feet 4...
Most asians are not very big or tall with few exceptions (like Yao Ming)
Forefather of hair David,
Elven greetings, human. Because you've always shown a fatherly courteousness concerning the more heartfelt postings, to which you have my deepest respect, I feel I am indebted to reply in kind. My height, upon last measuring, happens to be 5'10", being brought into the world by an amalgam of Scots-Irish, French-Canadian, German, English, and that little recognised Elven gene pool ancestries. There could ALSO be Czech and Polish, too, although that's a moot point. Hair quality is wavy on the sides and mostly straight everywhere else. Humid and rainy days mean problem frizzies. Beard growth is poor. Anyone else?

I'm about 5'5" or about 165cm.
6ft here :)

...though if my hair is sticking up, I reach about 6'4".

I am posting a pic taken years ago of myself while hiking on Kullen in Sweden. I let my height to be guessed from that picture...
A Linux Longhair
Sorry, wrong picture, more recent...
Here is the one from Kullen.
I would say you are about 6'2" tall. Because you are big and heavy, it makes it a bit tricky to estimate your height. I base my values on head height compared to body height.
BTW you have great looking hair, just lovely.
Absalom
Actually I am 5'7" tall, and much heavier than I was at the time when had that picture taken, about 15 years ago.
Thanks
A Linux Longhair
Hi David, 6"6" in my cuban heels 6"0" without. ha ha.
Five feet, ten and one-half inches...
