Okay, I have some questions.
How long does it usually take without a haircut for split ends to form? I do realize some people are luckier than others, but what's the norm? 6 months? 1 year? I'm talking about if you're someone who shampoos and conditions daily and takes good care of your hair.
I'm just afraid I might miss a split end developing and then my hair will grow out ruined.
I got a trim in February, and I sort of don't like it. It was no huge difference but the back was layered slightly and the sucky thing is that it was all one length until that happened. However, I'm sure the layers will look okay in the end, but for now they're driving me nuts. Some days I just want to cut it all back to one length but part of me doesn't wanna go through the awkwardness again.
Also, the bottom layer of hair "flips out" against the collar. This is normal awkward stage behavior I know, but will ALL the layers do this eventually? Or will they just fall over the bottom layer (which by then will be flatter) and stay flat?
Thanks people!
There's no real norm as to when split ends form, it depends on your hair routine and strength. Shampooing daily can be damaging depending on your hair type because it dries your hair out, which leaves it more vulnerable to splits, but conditioner helps fight against splits.
Don't worry though, your hair won't come out ruined just because of a few split ends.
I say don't cut it again cause youll have to go through the same frustrations again and you lose both length and time.
Not all layers will do the flipping thing but once it gets longer you don't even notice it anymore.
Hope I helped, keep it growing and best of luck

There are so many variables that no oe can give you a accurate answer. If you miss a few splits when trimming your hair wont grow out 'ruined'. The damage may travel up the shaft of that single hair but it shouldnt make the other hairs start splitting.
Wow, amazing hair!!!
Hi Daedalus
Absolutely great mane .Are you trying to do ponytail or bun ?
Can you post some pics of your brushing your hair
All the best ambrish
Hi Daedalus,
I don't remember ever seeing you post a pic of yourself before (assuming that is indeed a pic of yourself), --- although I do remember seeing your handle/name, and the fact that you post replies fairly regularly here...
Would you consider gracing us with more pictures of yourself and your amazing hair? If that is indeed your hair, it is quite remarkable!!! Why hide in the shadows, when you have a mane like that to show off!!

Hi Daedalus,
I back up the requests of the others to post more pictures, you have fantastic, inspirational, hair that is awesome. I have seen your pictures over at the LHC, why not share some of them here as well?
All the best,
David
It all depends on the person. Some seem to never get split ends.
There is no "norm" when it comes to Split Ends.
No way. Several Split Ends will never ruin your hair.......but many can sure make long hair care a pain for sure and too many quite destructive because of all the tangles and knots they create.
Please don't worry. Just let your hair grow from where it is and avoid trims. All will even itself up by itself in the end. To cut it back would defeat everything.
Never fear. When the hair gets long enough there is NO WAY that the ends are going to flip. Just hold on and you should be fine. Please remember that I am talking about straight to rather straight hair. Curly hair is a whole different story.
Good luck to you on your journey. The rewards at the end more than make up what you are going through now.............but this is the only way to get there.
