I recently had a conversation with my sister and she told me that
it was about time i got a trim. It has been seven months since my
last one, and I personally hated it. The so called "trim" was a
good 2cm off, which took me over 2 months just to grow back since
my hair grows slowly. I'm not naive in thinking that my hair has
no split ends at this moment in time but I don't think that it
looks bad. Can split ends really make your hair look bad or is
it just what people say so you get trims and waste your money.
Will i regret not getting a trim now but wait another six months
to a year?
Generally I think it's best to grow it to your desired length and have no trims....I had only one about 6 months ago, and that's it for my entire growth....and mine is doing well:

well today in biology class my friend was talking about her split ends because of the constant straightening she does to her hair. She showed me the split ends and it was really the first time i saw what they looked like...i looked at my hair, thoroughly and i had trouble finding even one at the moment. So so far so good i guess, hopefully i can keep my hair split free for the next six months so i can easily bring it in front of my face to do the trimming myself.
I completely agree with your idea of growing your hair to the length you want and chances are that if your not straightening, blow drying or putting dye in your hair; it should not split.
One thing for sure I guarantee on this board: you'll get a wide range of answers on this one!
If you really hated your last trimming experience, though, I'd be inclined to avoid it as long as you possibly can. When split ends get so bad that you're constantly feeling snags, snarls, breakage, etc., you'll probably also see with your own eyes how brittle, dry, & ragged-looking serious split ends can be. While it's best, if at all possible, to trim an inch or so off BEFORE your hair gets that bad; if you're growing long hair for the first time, just consider it all part of the learning experience.
Not everyone gets split ends, --- or, if they do, there are many folks that just don't get it badly enough to worry about it. Then there are plenty of us that DO regularly have to deal with the issue. Applying a little bit of beneficial oil on the ends will help prevent the splits to some degree; but eventually, my guess is that you'll probably not enjoy your hair as much if you "NEVER" trim off any of the damage, --- at least that's what I've found with my own hair.

I think that you won't regret if you don't get a trim immediatly. I don't think hair looks so bad without trim (I just trim mine at 6 months of growing, and after 2 years, they're not SO bad).
Anyway it can be a way to test : Wait 6 months, and see if it look bad or not. You'll have an answer in 6 months ;)
