The hair around my ears just isn't growing out and frankly doesn't look very good as a result. I had a fellow longhair suggest at a convention this past weekend that having my stylist trim the tips would cause the hair to start growing again. Any truth to this?
short answer: no
hair is non-living organic matter. growth occurs at the root- there's nothing you can do to the ends that will influence the rate of growth. the only reason to trim at all would be if your hair is damaged.
Went to Knobels Amusment Resort Tuesday...glad to report that longhair on males is alive and well in central Pennsylvania. Longhaired males were in adbundance, more than half longer than shoulder length and some just below mid-back. Most wore ponytails...some were mullets...but hey...I like mullets! This was true for both young and old.
Yea, there were a great number of buzzcuts too...but not as many as I've noticed in the previous couple of years at the park...longhair is definitely making a comeback!
Have been noticing that most longhairs I see have tattoos...this was true at Knobels also. I've been tempted to get one as I think that they do look great on most longhairs but am unsure if I want to take that step. Wonder what others think of tattoos and longhair.
NO. Cutting hair does not make it grow.
Depending on what type of hair you have, you might check out what
I did in my "Haircutting" message. But this method is definitly
not for everyone.

It doesn't make any sense to me that cutting the ends of hairs would increaes growth at the roots.
Hair grows for a few years, stops for a year or two and then grows some more. This cycle occurs at different times in different areas of the head. Any physiology book would explain in more detail. Your overall health and nutrition affect whether your hair will grow as quickly as your genetics allow.
Of course if you feel a trim would give your hair a more even look that you would like you might as well get it.

In my opinion, i think hair is stimulated by having the ends cut, the same way if you shave your eyebrows off they grow back, however there not constantly growing. In a addition someone on the board mentioned that the only way to have hair trimmed is if its damaged, i very much disagree. I have my hair trimmed 1/8 of an inch every 10 weeks, a could symetrical cut while growing out your hair is very important, i appreciate looking at healthy longhair, and to ensure healthy hair you have to have it trimmed, not to mention prevent breakage, I love the feeling of a blunt trim, it even makes my hair more manageable. I think men who just let their hair go and never trim it look like they have be nuzzeled and raised by wolves in the wild. Not that thats terrible but if you have a job or are social you want to look good and look like a longhaired who takes the time to keep himself up, anyway my point i feel has been made, keep hair farming
