Hello all,
I'm not exactly afraid of wearing a tail or eventually of braiding my hair, I am really more nervous. I know this may sound silly, but I worry that if it is pulled back, what if some horrible degenerate were to play a "prank" and cut off the tail or braid? Has anyone else worried about this or am I just off my rocker once again? hehehe thanks for the input everyone. Oh btw, Thank you to everyone for the nice remarks about my hair in other posts =)
Danny
Danny,
I've occasionally wondered about this but in general I feel much safer about my hair when it's tied back, especially when braided as against ponytailed. If I was on a bus or in some public place, I would make sure my braid was not left hanging over a seat or someplace vulnerable like that. I love wearing my hair loose but don't usually do so in public because I worry more for its safety in that state.
My braid:
You're not the only one with that fear, I rarely wear a tail in public because I just know some idiot will hack it off at some point.
My friends mom had waist length hair, parted down the middle and each part was braided. She got on the bus (public transport, ugh)
some kid behind her cut off one of her braids by shoulder level and she didn't feel it and nobody said anything while it happened. She had to get the other braid cut off and start growing out again.
Its probably safer that way too Jason, judging by the girth of your fantastic braid one would need garden shears not scissors to cut it!!

I don't think it is too much as risk as cutting a ponytail takes several snips of the scissors and I'd think you'd notice and pull away quickly enough.
Danny:
I think the fear should be considered.
I and some "friends" -using that term loosely mind you, in my high school days, was mean enough to do that very thing to someone... :(
Although it was not a full pony tail; but a "tail" about 10 inches long in the back; we grabbed it and with one fatal snip of the scissors it was gone.
I know; .... no excuse for that; just pure meaness. I attest to doing such detestable things to being young, stupid, and running with the wrong crowd. In any case; just food for thought ..
Tristan
At least you realize now what you did wasn't okay :) There are so
many adults out there who cause the same trouble they made when
they were children. I am related to a few of them *sigh* But getting back to the point, congrats on growing up and out of that mind set ;)
Hey, you,
Although I was spared that same effort of denigration when I sported a pony-tail, friends had had the same amount of exertion visitted upon them. Who cares? He's a freak? HAH, HAH! Let's see how long it takes to grow it back! Mean, just mean. Don't do it again, kiddo. Karma, ya know. What goes around comes around. You, of all people, Tristan, oughta know better. Thank you, thank you very much.
Best longhaired support,
Quenyan
Quenyan;
Tristan really should've known better... most definately. That was back in the day when it was Gollum vs Smeagol if you know what I mean... and you're right; once I get it long; some young punk will probably let me have it just for fun...
"He stole it from me!!! He stole the precious!!"
Peace dude.
Tristan
Ya oughta do stand-up, Trist, with a theological twist! Nyuk, nyuk, nyuk, nyuk, nyuk. But, yeah, that is one wonderful allegorical representation of an addiction and how destructive that THEY are. Devil's work? Hmn. Getting right with one's Higher Power should deflect any karmic debts accrued. You're doin' fine. So don't worry abt any delinquent sneakin' up behind you in forensics. Surrounded by death? Mortuary science? Leviticus?
Best bright blessings as ever,
Quenyan +:-)}
I catch the bus every day to go to university, and I am always sit. I always am so frightened of who is behind me (whoever it is)... All I know is that sometimes I even bring my ponytail to the front so I'm sure noone can touch it....
=P
LOL
You watch your wallet on the bus, and you have to watch your hair. The main places to worry about are where idle hands of immature people might be behind you with time to spare. On public transit, at movies, and in classrooms are such places.
Dipping ponytails in inkwells was a student passtime as old as the one room schoolhouse. The solution in all of these places is to keep your hair in front of you where the hands of anyone attempting to mess with it will be seen. Having it loose also makes it tougher for them to get it all in one whack. There is no feeling in hair, so you are apt to not feel anyone messing with it, and even if you do feel it, the first chop will be felt when it is too late. If your hair is all over your shoulders they won't get much with the first attempt. If you hair is all in front of you, they aren't apt to even try.
Shoving your hair underneath a shirt or jacket can also lessen any temptation. It makes your hair less reachable and also less visible, and "out of sight, out of mind" comes into play.

I've heard some horrible stories from people i know how someone has gotten waay to drunk and fallen asleep at parties, and then somebody have cut all their long hair off, that's why i'm always careful abour my hair when i'm not completely sober, if it would've happen to me i would damn right sue the person who did it!
Simon
Hi Simon :)
If someone did that to me while I was at a friends house drinking, I would probably end up being sued for beating the ever loving life out of the person/people weilding the scissors hehehee.
Yeah you're right, people would not wanna be around me when i wake up and notice that my hair is gone, lol:)
Simon
So would I, if they lived.
This happened a few hundred years ago to the classical composer Haydn. A boy sitting behind him in school cut off his pigtail, and was expelled for doing it.
I have that fear too. Normally when I am in a movie theater. So I just let my hair down. :-)
Danny
I agree with Jason point he made in his post which he quoted .. I love wearing my hair loose but don't usually do so in public because I worry more for its safety in that state. As I also fully agree with that quote he made due to more breakage & tangles from wearing it loose so I mainly wear a ponytail in public btw Danny wear your PONYTAIL WITH PRIDE !!!!
Axel
One more thing to worry about I'd never thought of happening by having long hair - I'm already paranoid about pine trees from hearing those stories, now I'll be hyper-vigilant about some scissor-wielding freak wanting to chop off my hair!
Generally, I think I'm "scary" enough to ward off such bandits however.
Mwhhaaaha!
Bragi
If it is down, it is usually around front...not so much because of hair vandals, but to keep it from between my back and the seat.
Also, yeah, I cultivate the cranky, mean, about to go postal look.
Most often, it is up in a bun.
I wear a ponytail more often than any other style, in public. Occasionally people I know touch it, and joke about cutting it off (at least I hope they're just joking...)
The thought has crossed my mind, but I think it's a bit paranoid to obsess over that. Anything could happen, but that seems so unlikely. But, now that you mention it, you've got me a bit worried now... ;)
Actually, I heard that the hair in braid are better protected than loose. But I'd not probably wear the braid because it may seem a bit like phallic symbol, heh :o)
Wow, I never thought a few stories could make me nervous, actually down right scared. I read a few and had to stop. I have never had the fear of my hair being cut until now!!!! Thanks guys!!!!!LOL!
But in all seriousness, but i am a little worried now;)
peace to all and i hope no one has to endure an unintended trim!!

In all the years i've had long hair i've never had a problem.
Just watch it like you'd watch your wallet.
When i'm in a busy mall i'll move the wallet to inside jacket
pocket, but i've always left the hair outside either straight,
in a pony tail, or braided.
It's waist length and i've never had a problem.
