Hello Again!
I'm just full of questions to bother all of you with ;) I was
watching the music video "Dreamgirl" by Dave Matthews Band. My favorite actress, Julia Roberts, plays in it. She has her hair in some braid or twist style. Does anyone know what it is called and how it is done? Below is a link to youtube for the music video. Thanks guys!

I think that's the "I gotta go see Quester" style. (least I hope it is.)
Hey Quester,
Being an elf and on the Quest my(s)elf I would just like to favor you with two websites. I think that you'll appreciate both of them. In the spirit of Terence McKenna, okay?

I see there are two marches in cities near me, cool! So are you marching?
Might I suggest, Jason, NOT marching. Honestly, I don't see the point anymore. I'm jaded. I'm fifty. Thirty years ago I wil have done it. Hey, a farmer friend attempted (vainly, at that) recently to recruit me into the fold. Now? In this world? With this political climate? Are you serious, Joe (my farmer friend's name)?
So, Jason. How close to Commonwealth are you? Loved the Hippocrates Health Inst. when they were on Exeter. No. I'm no longer vegan. That's just nuts. And "Rocky Horror" showed RIGHT ACROSS THE STREET! Well, anyway, I favor your response because I get a very good vibe. Ya know, elves are intuitive about people.
Best wishes,
Quenyan
You can do that style pretty easily, Danny. There is even a tool sold to make that style thought it can also be done by hand. While it is difficult to see her hair clearly, it looks like two strand twists that are loose so don't show the pattern as strongly.
This works on any amount of hair so can be just one twist for the whole head or lots of them. A good way to practice and see what you are doing is to try it on a section of hair from your forehead and work right in front of your eyes.
Start by dividing the hair to be worked on into two equal sections. This style is simply twisting each strand the same way (say clockwise in a horizontal plane) in place then twisting them around each other in the opposite direction (counterclockwise). You will need something to hold it together at the end like a little band or some styling wax. If your hair has enough texture like my fiance Bill does in the photo you can get away with not using anything to hold it, his curls seem to hold the style in place.
Back to the instructions. Take one section and twist it clockwise while holding it maybe two inches down the length, the thumb and forefinger work well for this. Twisting too much will make the hair double back on itself so let it unwind a bit if you go that far. The rest of that section will be untwisted below your fingers but will be twisted as you go later.
Hold the first twisted strand steady and use your other fingers to twist the second section the same direction as the first (clockwise in this example) because that is where the hold comes from. Once you have both individualy twisted about two inches down from the scalp you are ready for the next part.
You are going to be trading the sections from side to side which wraps them around each other. Since you twisted clockwise originally you will now move them counterclockwise. Hold one twist in each hand. Pass the right twist to the left hand in a counterclockwise direction- away from your body. At the same time give the one in your left hand to the right by passing it close to your body. Keep passing the two in the same direction until you have used up the twisted length.
Now that you have the pattern you can twist the individual sections clockwise a bit then combining them with the counterclockwise twist to keep moving down your length a little at a time. Eh, rereading this it makes sense to me but then I can picture what I am talking about. Braiding books have different colored hair sections and lots of pictures and that really helps. Do ask for clarifcations if you get stuck.
