Hi I am a 23 yr old mixed black/european/native american/spanish and i have curly hair like loose corkscrews. Its about 4 to 5 inches all around I usually gel it back since I work in an office. Cornrows arent an option. So, I was wondering what are the best ways to grow my hair out to be as long as possible. My hair is also thin so I dont get the big fro problem. My hair grows about 1/2 to 3/4 inch a month. Maybe 20 hairs come out whenever I come it. I shampoo is about once a week and I condition it often. I relazed it once this year but it just went back to the original texture and it isnt damaged. Any advice is appreciated.
Hi alex, I can't give you advice, but there is plenty here that can and will soon enough.
Just wanted to say welcome and hello and your is great now, but will be amazing when its long.
thats should say your hair is great, always rushing!! seeya around!
Welcome to the board, Alex!
My own hair is too straight (actually, wavey) to be of much help in the advice department; but there are several regular users here who do have hair that fits your description. An excellent notable example that has extremely long hair now is a guy named, "Bodhi", from the East Coast of the US. You can find his pic in the User's Directory, by looking in the "B" section. Another example I can think of right now is one of our guys on the moderationg crew, "Bragi". There's also a new young guy of Polynesian descent named "Sunia" (or similar spelling, if I got it not quite right), from the SF Bay Area. There are others; but those are the 3 that came most immediately to mind who have similar-type hair to yours.
Good luck with growing, --- and again, WELCOME!!

Hi Alex!
Welcome!
I think i cant be of much help either because my hair isn't as curly as yours BUT, It is still somewhat curly. My routine is very simple. Avoid brushes at all costs!Curly hair should not be brushed often because it becomes frizzy. Also, It is prone to damage because of its natural tendency to be dry.. What you want are defined curls.I suggest combing it with a wide teeth comb while you are conditioning or after you condition your hair. It is quite a breeze and makes it easier to comb through tangles and such. Avoid shampooing too much. Curly hair tends to be dry and weaker than its counterpart.Make sure to always Use moisterizing products.Try using some gel or maybe some leave-in-conditioner(I personally dislike this wretched gunk though) to giveyour curls some more definition. Oils on the ends of your hair help alot too. Oh! On a side note, There is a member here, "Bragi" to be exact, That has a great method of acheiving defined curls. It is quite simple and fun! :-)
Well Alex, Hope you stick around.
Take care
Oh, Wow, I got mentioned in two other guy's post on being a curly hair expert! I would kindly refer you too to Fallen Angels, another user who has very similar hair to yours. He uses aloe and other oils on his hair, and he has LOTS of patience!
The difference in my hair and yours is basically that I am pretty much white and have looser curled hair which I am able to comb easily. I use lots of conditioner when washing and leave-in conditioner after it's dried. I don't know what to suggest exactly, but I hope Fallen Angels sees this post so he can give you better hints than me. If you did what I did, you might not get as good a results. I think by just letting it grow and being gentle with it that you'll do fine.
